Position Summary

The Maintenance Assistant provides quality maintenance functions to facility in accordance with all laws, regulations and Company standards. Reports to Director of Maintenance.

Essential Functions

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language

  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday

  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents

  • Must be able to assist with preventive maintenance, repairs and replacements

  • Must be able to inspect equipment /systems regularly for proper functioning and safety

  • Must be able to runs errands, handle incoming and outgoing freight, lift and move heavy furniture and equipment

  • Must be able to practice dependable, regular attendance

  • Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

License, Education, and Experience

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) preferred.\

  • Must have a minimum of one (1) year maintenance experience

  • Must have proven knowledge of various mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems

  • Must be knowledgeable of local building codes and ordinances

  • Ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job.

The Engineering/Maintenance Technician#s primary job function is to repair and maintain hospital buildings and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, blueprints, and manufacturers# specifications using hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments while following all safety precautions. Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or successful completion of an equivalent High School Exam Required Completion of vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or refrigeration as demonstrated by certification preferred Associate#s Degree in Electro-Mechanical Engineering or Plant Maintenance preferred Licensure: BMVL required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC#s insurance carriers) BLS within 90 days of hire required Experience: Approximately one to two years progressively more responsible related work experience necessary in order to gain knowledge of equipment repairs and to be able to troubleshoot and diagnose a variety of equipment and machinery problems preferred. Interpersonal Skills: A moderate level of communication skills to interact with patients, coworkers, and outside professionals. Essential Technical/Motor Skills: Must be knowledgeable and skilled in the use of all equipment used in pertinent areas including the following: computer, multi-meters, refrigeration scales, refrigeration equipment micrometers, dial indicators, and hand tools. Essential Physical Requirements: Stands and/or walks for a majority of work time with regular breaks when installing, repairing or performing PM#s on mechanical equipment. Requires use of hands for repetitive simple grasping and fine manipulation when using hand tools. Requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching above shoulder level. Essential Mental Requirements: Has occasional contact with the customer and general public. Occasionally works under close supervision but majority of the time without the assistance of other personnel. Essential Sensory Requirements: Good vision is required when reading blueprints and visually inspecting machinery and equipment.
