The Maintenance Assistant at Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park focuses on facility and grounds maintenance with custodial and janitorial tasks, including planning and cleaning supplies inventory control. Other duties include grounds keeping (mowing, weeding, landscaping, etc.) overseeing the park recycling plan, assisting with the volunteer program and working with local service groups and organizations.
Basic maintenance repair skills (carpentry, plumbing, use of hand and power tools, etc.) are necessary. Position reports maintenance and repairs needed in maintaining facilities. Maintains records and prepares reports including weekly task accomplishments, vehicle utilization, and purchasing needs.
Performs other duties as assigned. This position works weekends and several holidays. Must have valid driver's license and a good driving record, as a driving record check will be performed.

Salary Range: $22,000.00 - $31,900.00
The Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Makes minor repairs to the interior/exterior of buildings and facilities and maintains furniture and equipment, employing basic skills in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical. Mows grass, cuts weeds, gathers, and removes trash from lawns.
Starts, operates, and checks for safety and maintenance on a wide variety of small engines, lawn mowers, and/or hand tools. Maintains vehicles by changing oil and filters, replacing tires, repairing breaks, changing plugs, and other repairs, and keeps vehicle maintenance and repair records. Cleans and replaces filters on air conditioners and performs minor repairs on central heating and air conditioning systems.
Mops, waxes and vacuums floors, as needed or required. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of basic carpentry, electrical systems, plumbing, painting, and heating and air conditioning. Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and safety requirements of motorized vehicles and equipment.
Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on motorized vehicles and equipment.
Ability to perform routine building and grounds maintenance work. Ability to use, operate, and maintain electrical tools and machinery.
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus one year of experience or training in the building construction trades, general building maintenance, or in the repair or maintenance of mechanical equipment.
