The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. DCR is a dynamic agency, and is one of the largest park systems in the nation. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, golf courses, trails and parkways.

The Department of Conservation and Recreation is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Maintenance Equipment Operator II

The incumbent operates heavy power-operated equipment:

Operates Catch Basin Vactor truck and clam shell truck.

Performs drainage infrastructure inspection, including emergency response & maintenance, and records information using Geographic Information System (GIS) Collector App provided by DCR.

Operates heavy power-operated equipment such as cranes, backhoes, front-end loaders, bulldozers and catch basin machines used to

construct, maintain or repair highways, parks or drainage systems.

Operates heavy dump trucks, snow plows, sanders, sweepers or tractor-drawn mowers or sickle bars to maintain highways and grounds.

Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment such as lubricating, fueling, cleaning and checking tire pressure, battery, oil, water and coolant levels, etc.

Maintains records and prepares reports on such matters as vehicle use, mileage, destinations, accidents, gas and other vehicle expenses, such as fuel, repairs, etc.

Safety Sensitive Positions require that the employee participate in the DCR Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program Policy and be subject to a Pre-placement and Random DOT Drug and Alcohol testing.

Special Requirements:
2A Massachusetts Hoisting License

Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver's License (CDL).

This position is required to participate in the DCR Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program and be subject to Pre-placement and Random DOT drug and alcohol testing.

This is designated as an Emergency position.

We're currently seeking an Equipment Operator. The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and appropriate manner. Heavy equipment may include trucks, front end loaders, dozers, graders, compactors, trenchers, backhoes, loaders and other pieces of equipment. Equipment Operator must also clean, maintain and secure all equipment as directed by policies and procedures. What you'll do: * Operate heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner in order to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. * Perform daily safety and maintenance check. * Clean heavy equipment as scheduled and/or required * Ensure heavy equipment is safely and securely stored * Advise Foreman of any requirements for maintenance or repairs * Participate in routine maintenance * Practice workplace safety * Maintain inventory What we're seeking: * Minimum of 3 years' experience in equipment operating and maintenance * Work in/or about situations near direct automotive traffic * Work near or about natural bodies of water * Work 8+ hours per day with applicable breaks x 5 days/week (some overtime/weekend work required) * Ability to work in extreme conditions – temperatures may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit * Ability to work in direct sunlight for extended periods of time * Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs.
