The Role

The Mainframe System Engineer (IMS) supports the mainframe infrastructure sub-systems focusing on IMS, VTAM, printing solutions, 3rd party software installations and level 3 support in a multi-LPAR environment. This position is required to work with other senior team members to perform problem determination and resolution, capture and transmit system dumps. They are required to work closely with vendor's technical support, apply fixes, patches and versions. They coordinate testing and implementation of new upgrades, and work with other mainframe-based technical teams on non-IMS upgrades. A Mainframe Systems Engineer plays a critical role on a global team that is responsible for ensuring the health and availability of PACCAR's business systems and subsystem applications. This is an exempt position that may be asked to provide additional coverage on a different shift as needed to include weekends, holidays and overtime as necessary.

As a Mainframe Systems Engineer, you will work with the Mainframe Technology Team. The Mainframe Technology Team is a unique team within PACCAR as it focuses on solving PACCAR's most important Mainframe platform challenges using experiences, knowledge and analytical skills. Job Responsibilities

  • Monitor, perform proactive management and recovery procedures on PACCAR' mainframe z/OS systems, network, and applications.

  • Ensure accurate and efficient execution of activities such as maintenance and recovery tasks.

  • Performs all installation functions for IMS.

  • Hands on experience with mainframe printing solutions.

  • Performs bi-annual Recommended Service Units maintenance updates for IMS.

  • Installs and upgrade 3rd party software products as assigned.

  • Perform backup support for DB2 problem resolution.

  • Writes and maintains code for automation, monitoring, and reporting.

  • Performs administration duties for IMS, VTAM, z/OS, VSAM and other mainframe solutions.

  • Interface with internal departments, external partners, customers and vendors.

  • Participate in Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning and testing.

  • Evaluates software products and makes acquisition recommendations to management.

  • Provides problem resolution and 24x7 on-call availability as required.

  • Participates in on-call rotation to provide after hours and weekend support.

Required Experience & Skills

  • 7+ years hands-on IT technical experience.

  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask within a fast-paced environment.

  • Communicate clearly with team members, technical support groups, and management.

  • Able to perform advanced troubleshooting techniques and recovery procedures on IMS.

  • 7+ Years of experience with Mainframe technologies.

  • 5+ Years of experience with IMS and/or CICS.

  • 5+ Years of experience and/or knowledge of zSeries systems programming.

  • Experience with installing software via SMP/E.

  • Knowledge of IMS system internals.

  • Experience with multiple Mainframe tools such as TSO, ISPF, SMP/E, SDSF, JCL and Assembler (desired).

  • Motivated and self-starter.

  • Experience with IBM DB/TM and/or IBM IMS TM strongly desired.

Education/Training

  • Undergraduate degree in IT, Computer Science or related field strongly desired, or 7+ years of experience in the IBM zOS Mainframe field in lieu of degree.

Physical Demands

  • Sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time

Additionally, this role is eligible for a full range of benefit options listed above. This position is also eligible for a holiday gift. This is the base range within the U.S.
