Job Summary

The Mainframe Support Leader is responsible for supervising and directing technical staff consisting of Information Technology professionals and contractors to provide operational support for mainframe infrastructure. The role will lead activities for mainframe related work scope including systems management, ad-hoc operational requests, and problem / defect resolution. This role will lead and manage mainframe operations, oversee support team, provide technical guidance and mentorship fostering a collaborative and innovative environment. This position is a direct report to the Manager of IT Infrastructure Services.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide day to day leadership and oversight to all mainframe related activities, which includes all hardware components, operating systems, and storage.

  • Responsible for maintenance and support contract management associated with mainframe systems. Initiate procurement activities and review Statement of Work.

  • Prepare and manage budget and finances for area of responsibility.

  • Manage security, storage, backups and data.

  • Lead and support the problem, defect, and incident management processes for production issues.

  • Facilitate the installation, configuration, security, operation, and maintenance of all mainframe infrastructure components (zOS, DB2, CICS, MQ, RACF) and independent software vendor applications (ISVs)

  • Experience working in mainframe operations support and understanding the ITIL processes

  • Supervise team activities to ensure:

o Timely completion of maintenance and support activities

o Failure of mainframe jobs are tracked and resolved following processes

o Standards and procedures are established and adhered to. (internal controls)

o Vulnerabilities are tracked and remediated within allowed SLAs

  • Maintain DR/BCP plans to ensure uninterrupted business operations and appropriate levels of redundancy.

  • Create documentation of operational tasks, procedures and automated processes.

  • Support project activities tied to infrastructure technologies and execute Life Cycle upgrades to ensure system supportability.

  • Responsible for attracting talent, performance evaluation, career development, coaching and manage compensation.

  • Consistently demonstrate professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor and discretion.

  • Provides support outside of business hours when required.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Business or a related field with 8+ years relevant experience within the information technology field.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of mainframe systems.

  • Strong knowledge of Mainframe technologies like COBOL, CICS, RACF, JCL,DB2, Assembler

  • Demonstrated supervisory experience leading technical teams.

  • Proficient in working with business areas and within IT to understand needs/requirement with ability to provide innovative solutions.

  • Ability to proactively communicate technical topics in a clear, succinct and relevant way.

  • Proven experience in managing IT cost centers and/or budget in a large corporate environment.

  • Demonstrated strong customer service, teamwork and leadership skills.

  • Excellent teamwork, facilitation, relationship building skills.

Desired:

  • Prior knowledge and experience with managing ERP and/or mainframe systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of IBM Mainframe, z/OS, and peripheral hardware ( z/OS, CICS TS, DB2 z/OS, MQ z/OS, OMEGAMON, zVM, ESP Job scheduler)

  • Strong focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

  • Technical proficiency in information technology/computer disciplines.

  • 3+ years of experience managing a team (internal and/or external staff)

  • Project Management experience with the software development life cycle, including Agile, Iterative, and Waterfall.

  • Ability to create both technical and non-technical end-user documentation.

  • Advanced degree, e.g. Masters of Business Administration

  • Relevant certification such as ITIL, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, etc.
