Maine Connections Academy (MCA) is a tuition-free, virtual public charter school for students in grades 7-12 statewide. MCA is authorized by the Maine Charter School Commission and is governed by an independent Board of Directors. MCA is accredited by the Cognia.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

Certified teachers will primarily work from home, meeting in person monthly, to support and motivate students through the Pearson Online Classroom. They will deliver synchronous instruction, provide intervention and enrichment, and use data to diagnose and address student learning needs.The Secondary Math Teacher will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

  • Demonstrate a commitment to equitable practices by using evidence-based decision-making, maintaining high expectations for all students, and providing individualized support to help them meet these expectations.

  • Maintain frequent and effective communication with advisory students and families to support their academic and personal growth and address any concerns or issues.

  • Oversee course progress for advisory and content students, ensuring students meet key milestones and stay on track with their studies.

  • Support the instructional program with both asynchronous recorded lessons and synchronous instruction, supplemented by individual communications and interventions.

  • Supervise and track daily advisory student attendance, ensuring compliance with school policies and addressing attendance issues promptly.

  • Provide clear, constructive, and consistent feedback on student work, prepare progress reports, and conduct family conferences promptly.

  • Regularly communicate with parents, students, and other teachers to develop and update Personal Learning Plans and schedules, assess student work, provide feedback, suggest instructional strategies, monitor assignment completion, and guide special projects.

  • Develop a general understanding of the entire K-12 curriculum and an in-depth knowledge of the specific courses assigned.

  • Operate within the Response to Intervention/Multi-Tiered System of Supports model, using data and evidence to deliver Tier 1 differentiated instruction and collaborating with other teachers to develop and implement Tier 2 and 3 interventions for advisory and content students.

  • Assist students and parents with alternative lessons, assessments, and strategies, and offer additional help with daily assignments and projects to meet individual learning goals.

  • Build strong relationships with students and families to provide direct instruction and interventions tailored to individual needs.

  • Collaborate with other staff in a professional learning community to ensure all students progress through the program successfully, parents have a central contact point, and staff tasks are distributed efficiently.

  • Continuously monitor student data for content as well as advisory students, within the professional learning community to make informed instructional decisions that directly impact student learning.

  • Work with other teachers, team members, and learning specialists to develop alternative interventions and extensions to student programs, ensuring high levels of achievement for all students.

  • Keep student records and data up-to-date, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance records, and logs of all student and parent contacts.

  • Collaborate with Advisory and content Teachers, and School Counselors to ensure students and families receive appropriate communications, students make adequate progress, and established goals are met.

  • Coordinate and attend social activities, required school events (e.g., Graduation), and relevant field trips for students, integrating these events into the curriculum where possible.

  • Engage actively with students and families at school events and field trips.

  • Develop and implement virtual methods to create and maintain a "school community."

  • Attend required school and district professional development sessions, and seek professional growth within the curriculum field(s) of study.

  • Participate in the organization and administration of State Testing, as directed.

  • Take part in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts requiring teacher representation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Highly qualified and certified to teach Secondary Math in Maine

  • Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft Office products and Google Suite)

  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

  • Highly organized and punctual

  • Demonstrated ability to work well in fast paced environment

  • Team player track record

  • Strong interpersonal skills which include the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.

  • Willingness to travel for marketing and state testing events (may require occasional overnight travel)

  • Ability to work some occasional evening hours, as needed to support some families

  • Ability to work remotely and in-person
