ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS!

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Division of Administrative Services, is recruiting for an

Office Assistant 2 located in Juneau!

This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 10.

What You Will Be Doing:

The Office Assistant 2 will perform routine procurement duties that involve researching sources, placing orders, monitoring delivery, verifying incoming orders, and reviewing invoices for accuracy.

The Office Assistant 2 will oversee property control activities including issuing State property tags, data entry and preparing property for surplus or disposal.

This position also serves as the Department's primary Mail Services Courier. Using the State vehicle, the incumbent picks up large bags of mail from The State of Alaska Central Mail location and upon returning to the Department, sorts the incoming mail by address, office number, code, or individual name according to prescribed mailstops.

Additionally, this position serves as backup to multiple administrative functions such as front desk reception, travel, accounts payable, and payroll.

High school diploma or the equivalent.

AND

One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Substitution:

Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Special Note: 

"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following:

  1. a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Some positions in this class may require the incumbent to operate motor vehicles. Such positions require that the applicant possess a regular driver's license and be 18 years of age or older.

Some position in this class may require skill in typing. Recruitment and selection may include this requirement.

DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT

Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.

  • A list of three (3) professional references, one of which should be your most recent supervisor, including name, job title, employer, and current phone number(s). This does not need to be provided at the time of the interview if the information has been provided as part of your online application.

  • A copy of your last two (2) performance evaluations, or two (2) letters of reference if evaluations are unavailable.

  • Copies of transcripts, if education is being used to meet minimum qualifications.

  • Valid Alaska Driver's License is required as this position may drive a State vehicle daily.
