Position Summary

Responsible for obtaining, processing, sorting, and distributing mail and/or packages to the campus as well as providing customer service. Primary focus may be in driving, on a shipping/receiving dock, or on operating a meter.

Responsible for safe and efficient transportation of laboratory animals between facilities. This role ensures adherence to transport schedules, proper documentation, and the cleanliness and maintenance of the transport vehicle. The driver will play a crucial role in supporting research activities by ensuring the timely and secure delivery of animals.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Driving and Transportation

  • Safely transports laboratory animals between research facilities.

  • Ensures all animals are transported in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations.

  • Maintains a high standard of animal welfare during transportation.

Adhering to Transport Schedules

  • Follows predetermined transport schedules to ensure timely deliveries and pickups.

  • Communicates any delays or issues promptly to the relevant personnel.

Documentation and Billing

  • Submits accurate billing sheets and other required documentation after each transport.

  • Maintains detailed records of all transport activities.

Vehicle Maintenance and Sanitization

  • Ensures the transport vehicle is regularly cleaned and sanitized to meet hygiene standards.

  • Performs routine checks on the vehicle to ensure it is in good working condition.

  • Reports any vehicle maintenance issues to the supervisor promptly.

  • Processes outgoing items by delivering mail and/or packages or locate and scan each package that customers come to pick up. Carry a valid driver's license at all times. Must observe all posted speed limits and drive no faster than 10 MPH in areas where there are none posted.

  • Demonstrates safety protocols at all times and attend regular trainings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to lift and handle up to 70 pounds.

  • Heavy equipment (buffers, mowers, forklift, etc.)
  • Operate motor vehicle

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience working in a mail, shipping or receiving center.

  • Familiarity with the campus, culture and mission.

  • Missouri Class E or Illinois Class D driver's license may be required within the first two weeks of employment.

  • Demonstrate basic computer knowledge including emailing, using MS Word.

  • Ability and desire to learn industry specific software.

  • Ability to use applicable equipment to log trackable envelopes and packages.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Ability to interact well with students, parents, faculty, staff and coworkers.

  • Desire to work on continuous process improvements, optimize speed and efficiency in operation and minimize customer wait time.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent high school certification

  • One year of prior experience working in a mail, shipping or receiving center, customer service, University operations, or similar role.

  • Driver's license.

  • Safe driving record. The University will check driving record approximately once per year.

Grade

G04-H

Salary Range

$16.40 - $22.12 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
