To provide patient care/imaging services and technical skills operating magnetic resonance imaging equipment (MRI) and Computerized Tomography (CT) equipment for imaging studies.

Description of Duties

  • Operates MRI scanner and CT imaging machine for data acquisition, reconstruction of images, and documentation of images.

  • Provides patient care and technical skills in the operation of magnetic resonance imaging Equipment (MRI) and Computerized Tomography (CT) Technology to produce cross-sectional images of patient's body for diagnostic purposes.

  • Performs accurate and proper entries in all operating systems such as PACs, Radiology Information System and the Electronic Medical Record.

  • Accurately enters data such as patient history, demographics, anatomical area to be scanned, orientation specified, and position of entry into aperture of MRI equipment, into computer.

  • Prepares patient for MRI/CT procedure by accurately assessing the patient's needs by reviewing MRI/CT safety sheet to ensure patient safety by providing education on the procedure and how to call for assistance as needed. Explains procedure to patient and safety precautions to subjects and provides assistance during procedures as needed.

  • Performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.

  • May perform digital radiology images and or films.

  • Demonstrates proper IV skills required for contrast media on all ages and uses power injector properly to ensure safe injection of contrast.

  • Performs point of care lab testing as required for safe injection of contrast and ensures that all necessary pre-procedure lab tests have been completed and are within a normal limit for the study contrast.

  • Reviews images being scanned on video display screen to ensure quality of pictures and keys in data on keyboard of camera to photograph images. Ensuring all sequences are performed per protocol for interpretation by the radiologist.

  • Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity. All billing is completed and signed off by attending physician and submitted daily.

  • Ensures all patient records are completed daily.

  • Participates in related research.

  • Applies professional code of ethics at all times and in all aspects of practice and adheres to all internal controls at the federal, state and UTRGV land reporting structures.

  • May provide instruction to students/learners after at least one year of experience.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Supervision Given

Direct supervision of assigned staff.

Required Education

Associate degree from an accredited university or successful completion of an accredited program of study in MRI and CT.

Preferred Education

Bachelor's degree in a related field. Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Licenses/Certifications

Current License in State of Texas as MRI and CT technologist and American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).

Preferred: Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT).

Required Experience

One (1) year of experience performing MRI or CT services.

Preferred Experience

None.

Equipment

Use of standard office equipment. Knowledge of the operations of both MRI and CT Machines.

Working Conditions

Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/Clinic Environment; some travel and weekend work is required. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which requires presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.

Other

Knowledge of health care laws and regulations. Ability to provide patient care, to prepare and maintain health records. Tact, diplomacy, discretion, and confidentiality of medical information required in all matters. IV skills and patient care before, during and after the imaging. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of staff and physicians. Good written and verbal communication skills. Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
