You are responsible for
In this role as Magnet Design Engineer, you will focus primarily on application of electromagnetic design principles to the development and maintenance of superconducting MRI magnet products and technologies. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Design of primary magnetic field producing coils.
Design of passive magnetic field shim systems for superconducting magnets
Development of computer codes to calculate passive shim system parameters for real magnets and environments.
Detailed design, analysis, and testing of magnet components.
Technical risk analysis.
Documenting design inputs and outputs.
Reviewing and ensuring adequacy of vendor qualification activities.
Participating in multidisciplinary project teams through all phases of product development to ensure successful execution of innovative and best-in-class designs.
You are a part of
The Development Engineering team, based in Latham, NY, consists of 17 other engineers with diverse backgrounds and expertise. The Development Engineering team works in close collaboration with Design & Drafting, Project Management, Systems Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, and Quality team members throughout the product development lifecycle. The Development Engineering office is co-located with manufacturing, so they are able to see the products come to life and work closely with manufacturing to ensure the final product meets the design intent of the Development Engineer and will meet the expectations of the customer.
To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated strong analytical and problem solving skills
Demonstrated use of advanced electromagnetic design tools (Opera, Maxwell, HFSS, Remcom, CST, etc.)
Ability and willingness to write custom software (C++, C#), preferably also in a modern scripting language (Ruby, Python)
Ability to provide technical leadership in ambiguous situations
Superconducting magnet design and operation
Superconducting magnet component design
Demonstrated use of magnetic materials to shape magnetic fields
Quench propagation analysis
Quench protection system design
Combined electromagnetic and mechanical force/stress analysis
Software tools - Mathcad, ANSYS, Inventor, AutoCAD, Spaceclaim, LabView, Matlab
Experience working with cryogenics
Experience working with ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Code
Hands on experience with fabrication methods
Hands on experience performing lab testing and data acquisition
Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5
