You will serve as a MACHINIST in the MARINE DEPOT MAINTENANCE COMMAND, TRADES DIVISION of MAINTENANCE CENTER ALBANY.
You will operate computerized numerical control (CNC) machines using program tapes, manual data input, or direct numerical control systems while accomplishing machining tasks.
You will select the tools, machines, and materials needed to prepare for machinery work.
You will determine correct speeds and feeds to cut particular material to required dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes.
You will fabricate unique parts used for building maintenance, utilities, or transportation.
You will create precision handwork to finish, fit, and assemble machined parts.
You will follow verbal and written instructions concerning the location of needed dimensions on blueprints.
You iwll use specifications or blueprints to calculate difficult angles and program dials and switches.
You will review blueprints or drawings to break down the costs of material or production times for different machining operations.
You will use equipment (e.g., fixed gages, micrometers, calipers, protractors, precision gage blocks, indicators) to perform dimensional inspections.
You will use measuring and precision instruments to determine sizes, angles, and radius.
You will use hand tools to create precision handwork to fit, finish, or assemble machine parts.
You will determine which tools and equipment to use when overhauling, modifying, repairing, and replacing machinery and equipment.
You will develop new machining procedures for rare metals to resolve machining problems
You will use metal welding (e.g., arc, oxygen, acetylene) to accomplish machining tasks.
You will manufacture items (e.g., tools, fixtures, parts of equipment) from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, or other materials (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, magnesium, rubber, plastic, nylon).
