Position Purpose:
Under direction of the Asset Manager or designee, the Machinist Supervisor will implement, maintaining and administer a qualified Machinist Department. The employee will provide front line supervision and technical direction to union machinist.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
Supervising and inspecting maintenance, repair and installation work performed by contractor and Veolia crews.
Responsible for planning, scheduling and executing preventative and corrective mechanical maintenance work on Jones Island treatment plant in accordance with the MMSD extension contract.
Lead the team's safety culture by complying with the programs regarding health, safety, and protection of the environment.
Demonstrates safe work practices and conducts daily safety meetings.
Manages assigned employees including approval of weekly timecards, adherence to attendance policy, confirmation of annual training requirements, and administer disciplinary action accordingly.
Maintains the budget and reports out on variances.
Reviews capital projects plans and specifications for both the MCRR process and the MMSD capital process; including review of OEM manuals, provide feedback to the capital department and MMSD on all reviews.
Rotate 24-hour on-call responsibilities for both plants with the other maintenance supervisors and fills in for other supervisors when needed.
All supervisory staff are expected to monitor emails and texts for emergency situations which may arise and communicate with the Manager.
Participate in developing and implementing the department's operational scheduling and standard operating procedures.
Monitor, maintain and develop KPIs.
Able to write detailed reports.
Provides leadership and direction to assigned employees.
Ability to work within an in-house union environment.
Provides feedback, coaching, opportunity, and decision-making authority to keep them actively engaged and able to improve their work situation and company processes.
Ensures good housekeeping practices are followed.
Performs other duties of a similar level and nature as assigned.
Work Environment:
Will be exposed to varied temperatures extremes, noise, fumes, odors, confined spaces, elevated heights and depth (up to 300 ft underground).
Walking on uneven terrain.
Qualifications
Education/Experience/Background:
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Have strong managerial and interpersonal skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Proficiency with computer skills and the ability to work within an office environment.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Office Suite.
Utilize a Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Strong knowledge in methods, practices, procedures, materials, and equipment associated with the construction, maintenance, and repair of industrial equipment.
Ability to accurately read and interpret engineering plans and drawings.
Ability to work harmoniously and tactfully with other departments and the customer.
Ability to keep accurate records and submit accurate reports.
Ability to determine work priorities and schedule, organize, assign, and coordinate the work of staff and contractors while coordinating with the Planning Department.
Assist in employee selection, training, supervision and evaluation.
Ability to handle multiple deadlines and multiple projects.
Ability to inspect work in progress and upon completion.
Able to handle a large workload in a fast paced, ever-changing environment.
Must be flexible and quick to shift priorities.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
Physical Requirements:
Climbing hills and stairs.
Moderate lifting up to 25 pounds.
Sitting for long periods at a time in front of computer.
