The Machinist is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of manual machining equipment in accordance with the process plan to maximize through-put, in a timely manner and to the Engineering specification.


  • Responsible for adherence to Pactiv safety policies, procedures, critical safety rules and participation in all required safety performance events.

  • Plan and organize all manual machining activities, in accordance with the process plans.

  • Select and order appropriate tooling for optimum cutting conditions using proper and efficient feeds and speeds for material conditions.

  • Interpret Engineering drawings, designs, application and tolerance.

  • Complete preventative maintenance on manual equipment according to the PM schedule.

  • Design and manufacture jigs and fixtures as required.

  • Track and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of machining operations.

  • Coordinate schedule/priorities with Shop Supervisor.

  • Verify "first-off" and that all machined components meet tolerances and quality requirements prior to moving components on to the next stage.

  • Manual machining included but not limited to; Mills, Lathe, EDM.

  • CNC machining as preferred.

  • Maintains all working areas in accordance with Pactiv housekeeping (5S) standards.

  • Rebuild Assemblies.


  • Read and Interpret Engineering models and drawings, dimensioning and tolerance.

  • Experience and knowledge of capabilities and processes of all machining good practice.

  • Measuring metrology (use and calibration of measuring instruments)

  • Experience and knowledge of Set-up and operation of manual lathes, mills, grinders.

  • A.A.S Degree in Machine Technology or equivalent required.

Salary Range: $46,203 - $78,218 Serve as a Lead Project Inspector on construction activities (utility, driveway construction, road construction, etc.) within the right of way of state-maintained roads in Division 2. Coordinate with all units in Division 2, as necessary, with updates on ongoing and planned work. This position will require the ability to make independent decisions on work tasks needed, including traffic control, to complete assigned projects. This position will select and schedule tasks performed by other Division 2 Units and On-call Contractors necessary to complete assigned projects on schedule and within budget constraints. Field general concerns and coordinate with other units as needed to achieve the optimal result. Direct lower level technicians in the inspection of guardrail/guiderail and if damage found coordinate repairs. Direct lower level technicians in inspection and sampling duties on assigned projects. Direct a survey party on field surveys for drainage, location and construction stakeout duties. This position will require the ability to make recommendations on roadway improvements and generate quantity and cost estimates to implement these improvements. Assist Engineers and Management with other duties as instructed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Applicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following: * Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking and completing project independently or with limited supervision. * Customer service experience related to resolving problems that involve explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups. * Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems. * Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments. * Computer experience including office software and drafting software. Additional Expectations: Drive pickup truck, carryall, or automobile. May inspect the following: asphalt lay down; stone base construction; chemical stabilization; construction of fill sections; undercut; seeding/mulching; major concrete structures; curb and gutter; milling; driving piles; construction of drilled shafts; signal/sign installation; drainage; utility construction; erosion control; pavement markings; work zone traffic control; concrete pavement. Maintain effective working relations with other employees and the general public. Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to establish positive lines of communication between technicians, engineers, and contractors and apply safety philosophy and program to all operations. Safety toe shoes are needed for this position. Must have the ability to operate a State-owned vehicle. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Associate s degree in an applicable area of Engineering Technology or Survey Technology from an appropriately accredited institution and seven (7) years of progressive technician experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
