Responsible for using expert knowledge to operate and control computer numerically controlled

(CNC) machines. Maintain knowledge of G & M codes and input them into CNC machines for

production, while ensuring products have precise and accurate measurements.


  • Under the direction of a supervisor and/or experienced machinist, responsible for quality

parts produced on CNC machines such as, but not limited, to lathes and milling machines in a

timely, safe and efficient manner.

  • Operate, perform set-up changes and first article inspections on production runs utilizing CNC


  • Load parts utilizing overhead lifting equipment, proving tapes, operating controls, setting

offsets, simple edits, deburring and inspection of quality parts for conformance to


  • Identify problems before production runs, then start and observe machine operation to

detect any other malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions, and adjust machine controls or

control media as required.

  • Read blueprints, precision measuring instruments and job orders to determine dimensions,

tolerance and tooling requirements.

  • Maintain knowledge of dimensions and tolerances for tooling instructions such as fixtures,

feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and cutting tools to be used.

  • Prove out new programs and make simple edits of NC programs on at least one or more

numerically controlled machines.

  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative

maintenance functions on equipment.

  • Perform other work related tasks as assigned.

  • Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.


  • Possess and applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of particular

technical field.

  • Under minimal supervision leads bigger projects/assignments and delegates responsibilities

to others. Reviews and evaluates progress of peers. Recommends and participates in change

of procedures. Has decision making authority and reviews processes and progress.


  • High school diploma or equivalent


  • 6-8 years in related field

Must be able to work Night shift.<br /> <br /> <strong>Position Summary</strong><br /> Sets-up and operates CNC machines performing lathe and mill work to produce components for oilfield equipment. Read and interpret drawings and operating instructions, inspects parts to ensure accuracy and performs in a manner that safety is a top priority.<br /> <strong>Essential Job Functions</strong><br /> ·         Operates and offsets machine tools in accordance with training and safety procedures.<br /> ·         Reads blueprints or job orders to obtain product specifications (dimensions and tolerances) and tooling instructions (fixtures, feed rates, cutting speeds, depth of cut and cutting tools).<br /> ·         Positions and secures work pieces to holding devices, machine tables, chucks, centers or fixtures using clamps and wrenches.<br /> ·         Sets specified feeds, speeds and depth of cut in accordance with product specifications and tooling instructions.<br /> ·         Ability to read and comprehend complex engineering drawings and blueprints.<br /> ·         Ability to set up and operate a full range of conventional machine shop equipment.<br /> ·         Observes operation and verifies conformance of machined work pieces to specifications using measuring instruments such as fixed gauges, calipers, comparators and micrometers.<br /> ·         Performs machine daily checks and maintenance.<br /> ·         Works to close tolerances and select speeds, feeds and tools for varying conditions according to reference manuals or materials for machine set ups and repair.
