Are you a skilled machinist with a passion for precision engineering? Do you excel in providing technical support in a dynamic environment? We are looking for an exceptional Engineering Technician, Machinist to join our team. In this critical role, you will support our engineering teams with minimal supervision, focusing on the Ice Protection and Potable Water System product lines. Your contributions will directly impact R&D, new product introduction, and manufacturing support.

Primary objectives:

  • Technical Support: Provide expert technical assistance to engineering teams, ensuring the success of our Ice Protection and Potable Water System product lines.

  • Machining Excellence: Utilize a variety of machines to fabricate test fixtures, components, and support hardware.

  • Shop and Facility Maintenance: Maintain and clean the onsite machine shop and equipment, and lead facility repair and maintenance tasks.

What you will do:

  • Independent Machining Support: Work under minimal supervision to machine hardware safely and efficiently.

  • Material Expertise: Machine a wide range of materials, including metallic alloys (aluminum and steel), plastics, composites (fiberglass or carbon fiber), and wood.

  • Collaboration with Engineers: Confer with engineers on component drawings and provide feedback when necessary.

  • Vendor Coordination: Identify third-party vendors for complex machining tasks that require specialized equipment or tight tolerances.

  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine preventative maintenance on machine shop equipment and ensure the shop is well-maintained.

  • Tooling Procurement: Identify and purchase necessary tooling and support hardware for equipment, such as end mills, collets, taps/dies, and lathe cutting tools.

  • Facility Maintenance: Lead facility maintenance and repair work, coordinating with the building landlord or third-party vendors for tasks that cannot be performed in-house.

  • Vehicle Maintenance: Track and manage maintenance activities for the company's four vehicles, ensuring they are serviced by local shops as needed.

  • Team Leadership: Orient, train, assign, and check the work of lower-level employees, such as co-ops and interns.

What you will learn:

  • Continued education in CNC and Lathe machining.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires an AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 8 years relevant experience

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship now or in the future. RTX will not offer sponsorship for this position

  • Previous experience working in a machine shop with manual mills and lathes, and CNC mills and lathes.

  • Proven hands-on work capabilities and knowledge of standard machine shop equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, remain organized, and complete objectives on time.

Qualifications we prefer:

  • CNC Equipment Experience: Experience operating and maintaining Milltronics RW15 CNC Mill and SL6 CNC Lathe.

  • Manual Mills and Lathes: Experience with Bridgeport and Chipmaster II manual mills, and Enco and Sharp 1760K manual lathes.

  • Leadership Experience: Experience running or acting in a lead role in a machine shop.

The salary range for this role is 48,000 USD - 116,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.
