THIS VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT WILL BE FILLED TERM NTE 1 YEAR AND 1 DAY, MAY BE EXTENDED UP TO 6 YEARS USING DIRECT-HIRE AUTHORITY FOR DOMESTIC DEFENSE INDUSTRIAL BASE (DIB) FACILITIES AND THE MAJOR RANGE AND TEST FACILITIES BASE (MRTFB) IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of machine tools, such as lathes, boring mills, milling machines, grinding machines, screw machines, radial drills, etc.

  • Operates a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine (CNC in the automatic mode).

  • Control machine feeds and speeds.

  • Determine when the fixture, holding, device, cutting tool, or the setup is in need of adjustment.

  • Make minor changes in machine set up, such as, realigning the work piece for different sizes or changes in shape.

  • Check and measure parts.

  • Utilize different cutting tools for successive operations.

  • Saw material on vertical saw and chop saw.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Machine Tool Operator~ without more than normal supervision, to include operating a variety of machine tools, such as lathes, boring mills, milling machines, grinding machines and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines to perform in the automatic mode using the feeds and speeds programmed with the assistance of a higher graded worker. No changes in set up or manual input are required, except for minor adjustments and compensations for tool and work piece size differences. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: The work requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. The incumbent frequently handles, lifts, and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent may be required to lift and move items in excess of 40 pounds, but only with the assistance of coworkers or weight handling devices.

Working Conditions: The work is performed inside well-lighted, adequately heated and ventilated shop area. Shop is usually noisy and dirty and there is constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive articles and hot metal. Subject to skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds, and there is constant danger to fingers, hands, and other body parts from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces, etc. Safety glasses are mandatory and safety shoes are necessary.

Position Summary The Forklift Operator operates a manually controlled gasoline, electric or liquid propane gas powered forklift to transport goods and materials of all kinds within a warehouse, manufacturing plant, or other establishment. Receives scheduled shipments, reviews documentation, and processes receipts through the Logistics Management Program (LMP). Also includes warehouse specialist (material handler) duties, as stated under the warehouse specialist (material handler) description. Essential Job Functions: * Operates forklift capable of lifting 15,000 pounds as high as 168 inches to move, load, unload, transfer, transport, stack or unstack palletized goods, boxes, crates, merchandise, materials and supplies from one location to another. Operates a floor controlled electric bridge crane, on the loading dock with a capacity of ten tons to unload a variety of items from vehicles. Insures proper placement and attachment of weight handling gear, such as cables, ropes and slings to lift cannon tubes, castings and other large and heavy equipment, while loading and unloading vehicles. Checks ropes, cables and other equipment for excessive wear or damage and obtains replacements as appropriate. approx. * Operates electric, diesel, or gasoline powered forklifts capable of lifting 10,000 pounds or more to a height of 212 inches to load, unload, stack, unstack, warehouse, and move shelters, conexes, crates, boxes, packages, pallets and palletized materials or loose items. Operates indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions working in outside storage areas and confined shop spaces. Moves systems, shelters, system components, and generally oversized materials through narrow aisles. Operates warehouse tractors with up to three dollies on a limited basis to move over sized system components, pallets, palletized materials, bar stock, and other materials requiring special handling. Requires physical endurance to withstand the strain from vibration. May be required to lift and move items weighing up to 45 pounds. Works in inside and outside storage areas over rough and sometimes uneven or muddy terrain in all kinds of weather. Is exposed to dust and dirt, and the possibility of injury from shifting loads, toppling stacks, and equipment accidents. * Operates 2,000 to 6,000 pound capacity fork Lifts to load, unload, stack, unstack, re-warehouse, and move boxes, crates, packages, pallets, or Loose items; regulates forks and truck movement, exercising care to avoid overloading or improper stacking or movement of supplies and materials; performs drivers maintenance in accordance with established rules and regulations. Operates gasoline, battery, or gas-electric powered 3 or 4 wheeled tractors with up to 4 forward gears, towing loaded or unloaded dump cars, skids, or wheeled trailers. Couples and uncouples tractors and trailers automatically or manually under special circumstances. Exercises responsibility: for assuring security of Loads, to avoid trailer overloading, and to determine safe material loading. Performs driver's maintenance, before, during, and after service on both tractors and trailers in accordance with established rules and regulations. Fills out daily equipment log. When manually performing warehousing tasks, may lift and handle heavy items. Work also requires standing, bending, reaching.
