Statement of Job:

The University of Southern Maine is seeking applicants for a Machine Shop Manager.

The Machine Shop Manager responsible for the effective, safe, and efficient operation of the Department of Engineering's Laboratories, Woodworking Shop, Metal Working Shop, and related facilities. The Machine Shop Manager supports faculty and students in the teaching, research, and service missions of the Department; and is responsible for daily operations of the laboratories; maintenance of sufficient supplies; and ensuring that equipment is safe, operable, and properly maintained.

The Manager designs and fabricates components and devices used for teaching and research. The Manager oversees the utilization of laboratory equipment and facilities when such are not supervised by responsible faculty or other staff. While overseeing equipment and facilities, the Machine Shop Manager is responsible for ensuring that equipment and facilities are used safely and effectively by properly trained individuals.

This is a full-time position with a starting annual salary of $50,470. This position will be based primarily in the John Mitchell Center on our Gorham Campus.

This position is Monday - Friday and may include evening and weekend hours as necessary. Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or equivalent training/certification in a technical field.

  • Technically competent and current with a wide variety of mechanical and electrical equipment.

  • Able to visualize technical solutions to problems and create devices to accomplish specific functions.

  • Safety oriented, technically literate, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, interested in furthering the objectives of the organization.
