A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BUYER / PURCHASER

As a Buyer / Purchaser, you ensure we have everything we need for a project. From making sure you have the correct lead times and quantities to checking that the metals are the right type and quality, you cover all the details.

To find the right prices and right delivery times that correspond to our projects, you diligently search for the right vendor to order parts and supplies from. You leverage your customer service skills and establish business relationships with key suppliers, but also make sure to evaluate suppliers on the basis of pricing, quality, availability, and delivery performance.

You help the purchasing manager with delivery and receiving by creating orders, assisting with shipments, scheduling pick-ups, and preparing products for shipping as requested. Utilizing your communication and teamwork skills, you relay important information to management as they arise and work with accounts payable to ensure timely payment to our vendors.

You safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to load or unload shipments and then inspect received goods to verify they meet all requirements. You feel good about using your purchasing and supply chain skills to help us have everything we need to properly execute our jobs!

BUYER / PURCHASER QUALIFICATIONS

• Relevant work experience in purchasing, preferably with raw materials in the metals industry

• Experience working in a busy, fast-paced environment

• Proficient with computer systems, spreadsheets, and Microsoft Office applications

• Ability to meet physical requirements typical of this position

Forklift or overhead crane experience is a plus. The ability to read and comprehend electronics schematics and mechanical assembly drawings would also be helpful.
