Summary: Responsible for operating trucks and other machinery in a safe manner to prevent injury to people or damage to property while observing preventive maintenance practices necessary to maintain equipment functioning properly. Works independently and may direct the work of lower graded employees, as required. Operates company vehicles.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

Responds to emergency/priority situations

  • Quickly responds to location

  • Accurately report situations and methods to control/repair

  • Take necessary measures to ensure safety to life and property

  • Operate valves, squeeze off, plugs or other appropriate means to reduce or shutdown gas pressure; and may initiate emergency section shutdown.

  • Responsible for the overall job assignment within scope

  • Responsible for adhering to WG standards and all other company policies and procedures

  • Responsible for adherence to Federal, State and Local codes

  • Completes or verifies all documents associated with job

  • Assures that work is completed within given timeframe

  • Directs, guides and instructs lower graded employees

  • Operates equipment to perform various excavating tasks

  • Performs minor field maintenance of machinery

  • Keeps vehicle clean and orderly

  • Assists Equipment Mechanic and other operations personnel with performing major equipment repairs and the installation of mains and services

  • Drives company vehicles, including dump trucks, steel plate trucks, 10-wheelers and trailers

  • Hauls equipment on trailers by connecting and disconnecting, loading and unloading of trailers; and

  • Aware of construction related activities in areas of WG facilities for damage prevention purposes

  • Works in confined spaces

  • Wears respirator while working in gaseous atmosphere or confined space

  • Interpret company records - ability to read and interpret company records, SRC's, quad maps, field notes, map books

  • Ability to interpret Dispatchers information when relayed verbally.

  • Locate and mark company facilities, as required:

  • Ability to use locating equipment; and

  • Knowledge of Miss Utility and One Call Center.

  • Effective communication via radio:

  • Use of proper terminology and professionalism while communicating; and

  • Able to professionally represent WG while communicating with customers to maintain good relations and the Company's prestige.

  • Installs and removes protective barriers (i.e., shoring material):

  • Follow and adhere to company standards as it pertains to proper excavation practices; and

  • Loads and unloads required material.

  • Operate power tools, breakers, rammer, clay spade, drills, cutters, saws, etc., as needed.
