Periphery Grind Set-up/Operator
The Periphery Grind Set-up/Operator will run multiple periphery grinding machines producing a quality product to blueprint specifications.
Key Job Responsibilities
Set up and operate any or all of the following machines: Waida, Wendt, Myford and chipbreaker.
Orient inserts before grinding.
Load and off-load inserts from multiple grinding machines.
Gage inserts to insure proper dimensions.
Scope inserts to verify visual characteristics.
Pull samples and Record inspection results on route cart.
Place inserts into appropriate racks after grinding.
Separate scrap from good inserts document accurately.
Scan correct production information.
Maintain tooling used in machines, resurfacing as needed.
Operate other equipment as needed. Rod inserts as required.
Train new operators when required.
Operators required to trouble shooting moderate to complex problems.
Commitment to working safely and understand all safety procedures.
Deviations in routine are handled according to operating procedures and/or work instructions. Operator responsible for following inspection control plan, assuring product is processed according to proper routings, specifications and that the quantity and style are correct.
Knowledge & Skills
Able to do basic and complex math including metric conversions, geometry and trigonometry.
Able to read and understand defect criteria in Kennametal intranet, insert identification, blueprints, routings and operating procedures.
Is able to handle inserts with fingers without chipping.
Read blueprints to determine dimensions to be held while grinding periphery and must be able to locate documents in QMS.
Understand proper use of gages, varies optical gauging equipment standard micrometers, Keyence, Digimatic Indicators, 30X Microscope, "V" anvil micrometers, and Hole Micrometers to measure the characteristics being ground to meet the blueprint specifications.
Ability to use a personal computer and various software such as SAP MII, locate information in QMS, and on the Kennametal Intranet for Edge Prep, ISO Procedures, and work instructions.
Communicate with set-up persons, inspectors, supervisors, and managers.
Proficiency reached in nine (9) months or less.
Must complete classes in blueprint reading, SPC training, and insert ID within 6 months or less within starting the position.
