MACHINE OPERATOR-Swing Shift

Job Description

Position Title: Moulder Operator

Division: Millwork

Purpose

How does the position contribute to the success of the operation, division and company?

The Moulder Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of machinery used in the production of wood moulding. The Moulder Operator is expected to provide leadership to a small team of 2-3 employees who will support the operator in the grading and stacking of material.

Essential Duties, Responsibilities, Expectations and Performance Measures What measures or metrics will the individual be measured on and what level of performance is required? Other duties may be assigned.

  • Setup and changeover the Moulder Machine for daily operation including adjusting heads, jointing, and machine controls.

  • Work efficiently to streamline work processes and reduce downtime.

  • Troubleshoot machine and equipment problems.

  • Use calipers to perform periodic quality checks on product.

  • Promote team-work by assisting other crew members with their duties as needed to ensure quality and production targets are met.

  • Train others to perform the responsibilities of a Moulder Operator.

  • Read drawings to determine which setup is needed on the Moulder.

  • Perform basic TPM and repairs on the Moulder.

  • Maintain an understanding of potential defects and grading issues. Perform periodic quality checks and complete associated documentation.

  • Communicate with Material Handlers when materials need to be moved.

  • Train new Moulder Operators to safely and efficiently produce a quality product.

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.

  • Strong mechanical abilities.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Basic math skills

  • Strong troubleshooting abilities.

  • Must be self-driven.

  • Ability to read digital calipers and tape measure.

Reporting Line and Supervisory Responsibilities

The Moulder Operator reports to the Production Supervisor.

What working conditions or physical functions are normally required to perform the essential functions of the job?

The physical demands and work environment are representative of a typical sawmill environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. Noise level is moderate to high depending on the area of the mill. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear. Requires close vision, distance vision, and depth perception. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
