Under general direction, the Operator position is responsible for setting up and operating machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, boring machines, and grinders to machine metallic and non-metallic pieces. Other tasks associated with this position include trimming, drilling, routing, line-up, assembly, and other duties as assigned. In all actions, supports LMI's Quality Policy, Mission Statement and other LMI policies and procedures by supporting our commitment to total customer satisfaction, quality products and services, lean processes, continuous improvement, on-time delivery, safety, teaming, individual accountability and respect for people.
Performs a variety of work center production tasks, which may include operating large forming machines, mills, presses, power hand tools, and other metal forming equipment and tools
Set-up and break down production tasks including assembling all tools and production aids.
Use gauges, scale, calipers, and other measuring equipment to check part quality.
Complete and follow work order, set-up cards and other instructions for work processes promptly and accurately. Use JIT (Just in Time) and other continuous improvement tools to implement process changes for throughput improvements.
Perform routine equipment and tool maintenance and follow all procedures for cleanliness and work center organization and orderliness.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Minimum of 1 year experience in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge within the aerospace industry helpful.
Ability to interpret documents such as work instructions and work orders.
Strong mathematical aptitude in addition, subtraction, division of units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must also have knowledge of computing rates, ratios, and percentages.
Oral and written communication skills required
Experience in using air tools, stretch presses, and A-12 Hufford machinery helpful
