Georgia-Pacific is looking for safety-oriented individuals to join our team as Machine Operators in Albion, MI. This position is an exciting entry-level opportunity with room for advancement. Machine Operators create value by operating machinery to produce corrugated sheets that are converted into printed boxes for our valued customers. By demonstrating teamwork and a commitment to attendance excellence, Machine Operators support the long-term quality and production goals of the organization.

These are 2nd and 3rd shift openings.

A Day In The Life Typically Includes:

  • Operating equipment to defined standards and product specification targets

  • Conducting required quality checks on products to ensure customer satisfaction

  • Performing preventative maintenance on equipment and maintaining housekeeping of designated work area

What You Will Need:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Willing and able to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed

  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing and/or pulling for up to twelve (12) hours a day

  • Willing and able to work in loud/noisy, hot, humid, dusty, greasy and high-volume environment

  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment

What Will Put You Ahead?

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a manufacturing or industrial environment

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Willing and able to read a tape measure

  • Experience using a computer for documentation and data entry

  • Experience working in the corrugated industry

  • Experience operating mobile equipment, such as a forklifts or clamp trucks

  • Knowledge of preventive or predictive maintenance concepts

Must satisfactorily complete associated training programs. Position offered is on a temp-to-hire basis. Must possess a thorough understanding of the operation of the relevant machinery and its complexities, as well as knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Background/Skills: High School Diploma or GED required plus a minimum of one (1) year manufacturing experience preferred. Successful completion of training is required. Basic operating knowledge and understanding of manufacturing operations essential. Physical Job Requirements: * Physically able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, twist, lift, push, pull, climb, balance, crouch, handle and move items weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance. * Visual acuity corrected to perform job functions. Ability to distinguish color to perform job functions * Ability to move throughout all areas of the plant floor, receiving, and outside perimeter of the facility * Able to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job functions * Stand and/or sit continuously and perform job functions for a full shift with meal break. * Ability to climb ladder/stairs to a height of approximately 8 feet and perform work at that height. Additional description Responsibilities: Responsible for the set-up and operation of textile machines that perform textile processing and manufacturing operations such as winding, twisting, taping, slitting, bonding, coating and/or stretching. The incumbent is cross-trained on all applicable equipment and must be flexible in working varied assignments. * Notifies Supervisor(s) or repair staff of mechanical malfunctions. * Starts machines, monitors operations and makes adjustments as needed. * Inspects products to ensure that specifications are met and to determine if machines need adjustment. * Observes material to detect defects. * Inspects machinery to determine if repairs are needed. * Records information about work completed and machine settings. * Changes products based on production scheduling, while maintaining the highest quality standards. * Maintains a properly cleaned area in and around each applicable machine. * Logs all pertinent information and data. * Works in a manner that is safe while continuously ensuring quality, production and performanceexpectations are met. * Performs audit programs, cleaning, painting and applicable 5S maintenance and support of manufacuring porgrams. * Responsible for performing assigned duties until properly relieved. * Completes related miscellaneous work as required, and as instructed by Supervision.
