Position: Machine Operator

While reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for manufacturing polyethylene parts using rotational molding machinery. Excellent attendance is crucial for the team to achieve success. You will have the ability to work with various teams and have a good problem-solving ability. You will take pride in your personal hands-on and analytical abilities, organization skills, and attention to detail.
Day to day responsibilities will include:
Following the company procedures and the manufacturer's recommendations for operating equipment
Monitoring the molding machinery, molds and the associated equipment. Immediately reporting to the supervisors any actual or potential problems.
Providing day to day maintenance on the molds to insure quality molded parts.
Striving to perform efficiently, work to maximize output from the machinery.
Maintaining all tools and equipment in optimum working condition.
Keeping all jigs, fixtures, and molds clean, waxed and properly adjusted. Report any needed repairs to the supervisor immediately. When a job is completed, thoroughly cleaning all equipment before warehousing.
Maintaining good housekeeping practices in the work area.
Making recommendations for procedural changes as necessary.
Continually practicing safe operation and handling of all equipment, raw materials and products throughout the entire plant.
This position is in our protective solutions plant in beautiful Beecher, Illinois.
We expect you to be Sonoco mission driven
We expect you to have your HS diploma, or general education degree (GED)
You will have 1-3 months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of both education and experience
To succeed in this role, you will need excellent written and verbal communication skills
You will need to able to read and comprehend detailed instructions, correspondence and memos
You must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
You must have the ability to use and accurately read a tape measure
You must have a "get it done" attitude and an urgency to resolve problems/tasks.
Working independently and managing multiple tasks simultaneously is needed.
Being reliable, having good initiative, being committed, and being quality focused is a must.
You will need to be able to lift up to 70 lbs. as needed.
Having the ability to effectively work with a team in a fast-paced environment is crucial to success.
You will need to have the ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions.
You will need to able to perform repetitious duties, including stairs and standing for long periods of time.
You will need to have the ability to work quickly while maintaining a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
