Overview

The primary function of the position is to perform all the required lay-out, set-up, manual machining, CNC machining, subassembly, tool setting, deburring parts, and dimension checking (geometric tolerances) in our heavy machining shop.

Responsibilities:

• Obtains raw materials/parts from stock, drawings, tools, fixtures, templates and other materials as required.

• Works from and interprets prints, drawings, work lists, work order books, short forms, manuscripts, tool set-up sheets, part set-up sheets and bills of material. Verifies that materials, drawings, route sheets, manuscripts and tool and part set-up sheets are in agreement with work order book.

• Sets up and operates machines, monitors performance to maximize output and makes adjustments as necessary.

• Edits numerical control programs using machine control and records data or changes on manuscript and set-up sheets as required. Loads programs into machine, operates machine manually or initiates program controlled machine cycle. Produces simple part programs using MDI.

• Stores and retrieves part machining data on punch tape, floppy disk, DNC system or retains in memory as required.

• Performs simple layout operations and assembles and disassembles as required.

• Checks parts with various precision measuring devices and prepares department data sheet as required. Reports defective parts, material, equipment, and tooling to supervisor.

• Adjusts, changes, sharpens or dresses tools as required. Uses various tool setting equipment to assemble, preset and change tooling as required independently and simultaneously with machining operations.

• Deburrs as required. Performs finish deburring operations independently and simultaneously with machining operations and stamps/stencils parts for identification purposes.

• Cleans, dries and preserves materials or parts after machining operations as required.

• Performs material handling functions using hoists, overhead cranes, fork lift trucks and etc., performing the necessary hooking and unhooking, driving, etc., as required.

• Reports production count, time and identifying data as required.

• Performs routine and preventative maintenance on machines and fills out check list as required. Adds replacement oils and coolants to machine.

• Performs the required machining or processing operations and verifies that the operation is complete by signing off the appropriate operation and/or set up. Follows established Company manufacturing procedures such as Department Operations Manual, Shop Practices, Process Specifications, etc.

• Verifies accuracy of measuring instruments using calibrated standards and using measuring instruments with current calibration.

• Checks motor, brakes, steering, horn, etc., on motorized handling equipment to ensure proper and safe operation.

• Maintains good housekeeping, removes chips from machine and places in proper hopper, follows safe working practices and observes all safety rules.

Qualifications:

• Must be able and willing to work all shifts.

• Must be able and willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.

• Shifts are not guaranteed.

• Prior experience in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred and divisional testing required.
