Job Summary: Be a working supervisor. Lead out and direct student helpers, utilizing them for preparation of all hot foods for lunch, next day's preps, and any additional special orders. Be a VM Deli team member. Customer Service is #1 priority.
General Duties:
Be aware of your student employees attendance and performance (the ones you supervise).
Notify the Deli Manager of situations, problems or suggestions that would improve the program.
Understand and practice the best and proper methods of quality preparation for each item on menu, and to maintain the highest of standards in all food production.
Understand, maintain, and practice good sanitation and cleaning procedures at all times.
Practice safe food handling
Keep the kitchen as clean and neat as possible during the day
Maintain a clean and sanitary work environment
Direct and lead out in the preparation of the hot foods for lunch - keeping hot bar supplied
Check temperatures before serving-hot foods should be 165 degrees and maintained above 135 degrees at all times.
Prepare any special orders requested for special functions
Do preparations for the next day- check to see if you have any orders going out for the next day
Develop new recipes and work with Deli Manager for pricing
Utilization and rotation of current inventory
Inventory and order supplies for the new week
Take care of left-over foods in cooler- freeze or make meals
Straighten pots, pans and utensils daily- before you leave
Make sure your kitchen area is clean before leaving for the day
Sweep floor
Mop floor if needed
Coordinated with Dinner Supervisor on Cleaning Fryer
Take out trash
Clean down counters,
Wash dishes it needed
Do closing rounds before leaving
Do special cleaning- like ovens, etc. during slow times-like student breaks.
Maintain a Christian atmosphere in your area by precept and example.
Perform all other reasonably business-related functions as assigned
Special Requirements: Must have an expressed commitment to Jesus Christ, the teachings and mission of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, an SDA church member in good and regular standing, and a desire to serve in a cooperative, spiritually redemptive, and soul-winning atmosphere. Practice confidentiality of information at all times.
Education and Experience: A minimum of a high school diploma. College or trade school education preferred. A minimum of 2 years' experience in Food Service. Supervision and management experience.
Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively. A self starter who displays neatness, cleanliness, and organizational skills and has the ability to motivate others to do the same. Approachable, friendly, positive attitude, able to encourage others. Able to have a good rapport with employees and student workers
Skills and Aptitudes: Have a working knowledge of food service operations. Interpersonal relationship skills essential with ability to work with employees and students with a team spirit. Have safety-consciousness and promote within work force.
Typical Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, bending, and reaching. May require lifting up to 50 pounds. (If over 40 pounds please ask for help) Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate food service equipment such as food slicers, chopping bowls, mixers, etc. Requires normal range of motion, hearing, and vision.
Working Conditions: Essential task are performed under normal office/school conditions with little or no noticeable discomfort. Work area is well lighted and ventilated.
