The Lubrication Systems Engineer is responsible for designing and developing robust and innovative engine lubrication systems while optimizing component concepts for fuel economy, durability, mass, manufacturability, and cost. The Engineer will work closely with design, purchasing, manufacturing, program management, and suppliers to ensure all designs are robust against functional specifications. The ideal Engineer will have a passion, interest and hands on working knowledge of automotive engines and vehicles.
The Engineer's responsibilities also include but are not limited to leading the base engine team in establishing agreed targets for oil consumers, layout and validation of engine oil circuits for optimum engine performance and sourcing of component suppliers for both prototype and production engine builds. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for product design and development from concept to launch, including release of both 3D models and 2D drawings. The Lubrication Systems Engineer will conduct production issue analysis, root cause investigation, and countermeasure release including the presentation of data and conclusions to upper management and project stakeholders. The Engineer will be responsible for building and maintenance of critical quality documentation (Function Block Diagram, DFMEA, DVP&R, etc.).
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
Minimum 1 year of engineering experience in design and validation of lubrication systems or lubrication system components including, but not limited to: oil pumps, piston cooling jets, oil coolers, PCV systems, oil pick-up tubes
Working background in fluid mechanics
Experience in creation and maintenance of Function Block Diagrams, DFMEA, and DVP&R
Advanced knowledge of using Microsoft office suite applications including Excel and PowerPoint
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as an ability to work in a team environment
Basic knowledge of casting, molding, machining, and extruding processes
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong knowledge of gasoline engine operation
Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering
Experience in sizing and design of variable displacement oil pumps
Knowledge of crankcase ventilation system design for both turbocharged and naturally aspirated engines
Experience in lubrication circuit pressure and flow testing for 1D model feedback and correlation
Basic working knowledge of GT-Suite AmeSim, Flowmaster, or similar 1D simulation software
Basic working knowledge of NX and Teamcenter modeling software
Green Belt in Design for Six Sigma methodology
