The Lubrication Systems Engineer is responsible for designing and developing robust and innovative engine lubrication systems while optimizing component concepts for fuel economy, durability, mass, manufacturability, and cost. The Engineer will work closely with design, purchasing, manufacturing, program management, and suppliers to ensure all designs are robust against functional specifications. The ideal Engineer will have a passion, interest and hands on working knowledge of automotive engines and vehicles.

The Engineer's responsibilities also include but are not limited to leading the base engine team in establishing agreed targets for oil consumers, layout and validation of engine oil circuits for optimum engine performance and sourcing of component suppliers for both prototype and production engine builds. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for product design and development from concept to launch, including release of both 3D models and 2D drawings. The Lubrication Systems Engineer will conduct production issue analysis, root cause investigation, and countermeasure release including the presentation of data and conclusions to upper management and project stakeholders. The Engineer will be responsible for building and maintenance of critical quality documentation (Function Block Diagram, DFMEA, DVP&R, etc.).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university

  • Minimum 1 year of engineering experience in design and validation of lubrication systems or lubrication system components including, but not limited to: oil pumps, piston cooling jets, oil coolers, PCV systems, oil pick-up tubes

  • Working background in fluid mechanics

  • Experience in creation and maintenance of Function Block Diagrams, DFMEA, and DVP&R

  • Advanced knowledge of using Microsoft office suite applications including Excel and PowerPoint

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as an ability to work in a team environment

  • Basic knowledge of casting, molding, machining, and extruding processes

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Strong knowledge of gasoline engine operation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering

  • Experience in sizing and design of variable displacement oil pumps

  • Knowledge of crankcase ventilation system design for both turbocharged and naturally aspirated engines

  • Experience in lubrication circuit pressure and flow testing for 1D model feedback and correlation

  • Basic working knowledge of GT-Suite AmeSim, Flowmaster, or similar 1D simulation software

  • Basic working knowledge of NX and Teamcenter modeling software

  • Green Belt in Design for Six Sigma methodology

The system engineer is required to develop and manage the system level requirement to meet the needs of the customer, legislative authorities and functional safety. The systems engineer will work closely with other engineering disciplines to design and develop appropriate system solutions within the time and cost budgets of the project. The role includes the specification and execution of appropriate tests to verify the success of the developed systems. Core Responsibilities: * Coordinate with the customer to form, or refine, customer requirement specification documents from which the project will be planned and scheduled. This may include conducting feasibility and conceptual studies, system modeling and simulation and, where appropriate, advising the customer using previous experience. * Provide close coordination of project activities throughout the duration of the project between both the CES development teams and the customer. * Fully document the design development and verification of developed systems * Analysis of customer requirements, functional safety requirements, relevant legislation and standards to develop system requirement specifications. * Calibration of system functions to comply with project requirements. Complete signoff procedures for vehicle algorithms, calibrations, and final product testing. Undertake system and vehicle development and problem solving within tight timescales. Additional Responsibilities: * Assist customer representatives in the understanding of algorithm and powertrain features and providing support and documentation as required. * Plan, conduct and review testing of new software, hardware and calibrations at a variety of levels including integration testing, dyno testing, and vehicle level testing, sometimes including worldwide field trips * Work closely with other engineering disciplines to develop system design specifications and algorithms. * Work closely with Functional Safety department to ensure the analysis and development of appropriate functional safety requirements. Core Capabilities: * An understanding of modern automotive systems and common automotive practices * Understand and comply with company and customer confidentiality agreements and maintain the security of company and customer property * Good test and analysis skills * Good written and verbal communication skills * Proficiency with standard office tools: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc. * A team player with the additional ability to work alone unsupervised * Highly motivated and capable of working on concurrent activities Job Requirements Basic Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related applicable concentration * Minimum of 3 to 5+ years of full time automotive engineering experience * Experience in requirements analysis and management, preferably using dedicated requirements management tools (Example: DOORS, MKS …) * Knowledge of formal test environments and version control systems * Experience of Configuration Management Tools (Example: MKS) * Experience in systems design methodologies, developing control algorithms for automotive applications * Knowledge or familiarity of Software Code, MATLAB, CAN and FlexRay communication protocols and tool chain * Knowledge of basic electronic hardware techniques and an ability to interpret circuit schematics * Knowledge of the use of microcontrollers within Realtime embedded systems * Experience with Working with high voltage systems Preferred Qualifications: * Master's degree in engineering or MBA * 5+ years of automotive systems engineering experience EEO Statement EEO / AA / Disabled / Protected Veteran Employer.
