LTL Business Development Manager

The LTL Business Development Manager is a consultant and subject matter expert that works with the C.H. Robinson sales organization on the generation of new business and retention of existing business related to the LTL service line. This role works with and build relationships with multiple groups internal to C.H. Robinson, including, but not limited to sales, account management, global account centers, the office network, Regional Sales Directors, Customer Shared Services, and the executive team to generate leads and support the sales process for large or complex opportunities. Additionally, the LTL Business Development Manager leads and/or participates in strategic account discussions, contract and pricing strategy directly with the office network and/or the customer directly.


  • Business Development

  • Diagnoses opportunities, qualifies leads & develops business

  • Develops business by selling and closing opportunities in partnership with the office network

  • Markets LTL service line to sales and account management teams through ongoing education

  • Drives growth and creates demand for the LTL service line, which helps to ensure their respective region has a robust pipeline of customer opportunities

  • Seeks to understand the underlying challenges of the opportunity and design solutions that address the customer's short and long-term needs.

  • Designs and implements solutions for LTL products and services. This includes partnering with internal pricing teams and being a liaison between the service and network to create pricing models and strategies

  • Refines marketing strategy for respective LTL service regularly based on network feedback and external market trends

  • Consultation/Customer Service

  • Builds trusting relationships by acting as an ambassador of the LTL service line to the network, in addition to external customers and suppliers

  • Collaborates with management to proactively identify and/or resolve issues in a timely manner

  • Provides industry feedback to the network on trends, pressures, and competitive evaluation of key competitors in the marketplace

  • Educates and consults with the sales and account management teams on the market factors that impact pricing for LTL

  • Educates the network on service line initiatives, vision and strategies

  • Demonstrates or develops product and service capabilities and addresses detailed functional and technical questions

  • Responds to network inquiries on topics related to the industry, market trends and competitive intelligence for LTL

  • Understands how to leverage departments within the service line they support, other modal teams, and Customer Shared Services teams

  • Other duties or responsibilities as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in transportation sales or account management

  • Ability to travel 25-40% internationally

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience selling LTL services

  • Technical proficiency in MS Office

  • Proven ability to create and sell comprehensive solutions and service packages to all buying influences

  • Demonstrated influencing, negotiation, collaboration, communication and presentation skills

  • Proven track record of delivering measurable financial results through sales or account management solutions

  • Strong strategic orientation, relationship building, negotiation skills and business acumen

  • Proven ability to develop proposal presentations in Word or PowerPoint

  • Proven examples of using Excel for analysis and modeling

Please note that this position can be primarily remote based but will require regular (semi-monthly) visits to the Conshohocken, PA AECOM office. This is a business development and consultative sales role focused on energy retrofit and performance contracting project opportunities in the mid-Atlantic region of the US. This position will require developing relationships with new and existing AECOM clients, and providing needs-based solutions through a detailed and strategic consulting sales process. The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: * Leading business development strategies and activities for the Energy Savings Performance Contracting (ESPC) and Energy-As-A-Service market * Identifying and cultivating client relationships and leads that result in energy services and performance contracting opportunities * Be involved in identifying, developing, and proposing new energy projects * Negotiating partnerships and alliances * Structuring and closing transactions * Managing senior-level relationships internally and externally * Maintaining a sharp focus on the client during project implementation This role requires knowledge of State ESPC programs along with various other public and private contracting mechanisms. Success in this position will require a dynamic, self-motivated individual with high energy and an acute passion for developing large, complex energy retrofit projects in the MUSH (municipalities, universities, schools, and hospitals) markets. Level specific responsibilities: * Plans, organizes and implements all business development activities for an assigned market(s), or geographic territory. * May supervise and oversee business development staff and managers. * Participates in decision-making. * Works independently to pursue development of new business prospects. * Assists in the development of proposals and gives presentations to potential clients. * Has broad knowledge of the business to support cross-discipline, business line, and region collaboration. * Generally has business development and/or technical experience, with hands-on cost proposal development. Minimum Requirements * BA/BS and 10 years of relevant experience in financial / performance contracting including 2 years of previous leadership, sales and marketing experience with an energy services or related organization with responsibility for identifying leads and closing sales or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education * Very strong consultative sales skills, ability to operate in a technically complex market and long sales cycle. * Excellent written and oral communication skills * Superb project management abilities, both individually and as part of a team * Strong interpersonal, organizational, creative problem-solving, and leadership skills * Specific expertise of the financial, technical, and political aspects driving the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. * Self-directed personality with a commitment to excellence * Previous experience working in high-performance organizations Preferred Qualifications * 15 + years of financial/performance contracting experience including previous leadership, sales and marketing responsibilities with an energy services or related organization, including identifying leads and closing sales * MBA * Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Management, or Business is strongly preferred. * Successful financial close of at least two ESPC projects as the responsible and accountable business development leader is strongly preferred.
