Job Summary:

This position oversees multiple projects simultaneously, performs site visits on a regular basis, ensures that timetables are on schedule and that all safety and compliance regulations are being followed. This position manages project timelines, and ensures quality work is being conducted, manages project construction budgets and ensures they are on target, oversees the reviews and approves all job estimates, change orders, and ensures clearance is achieved on each site. The EHS manager serves as the liaison between the construction contractor and the LSHP applicants and assures the quality of the project, as well as manages the expectation of each applicant, ensuring that both the construction staff and applicant are happy with the progress of the project.

The incumbent will: assign and manage the work of a regional LSHP EHS that will support the local health departments; program administrators; conduct and review risk assessments and their associated scopes of work on enrolled properties to ensure conformity to LSHP policies; conduct site visits to support lead hazard identification and inspection of abatement work practices; work with the LSHP contractors to educate and correct any problems as they arise; review all clearance reports to ensure safety of occupants; and track status and progress of all properties enrolled in the program.

Responsibilities:

Reviews and ensures quality and compliance of staff consultations, guides the development and implementation of a safety program in a specific area, and/or supervises staff so all work, recreation, and research can be performed safely and in compliance will all applicable federal, state, and local regulations and standards.

  • 20% May supervise the daily operations of unit staff and provide direction and expectations for workflows
  • 20% Oversees unit consultations to customers and serves as the main point of contact for internal and external stakeholders
  • 20% Guides the development and implementation of a health and safety program that aligns with strategic goals
  • 10% Identifies operational and safety issues
  • 10% Reviews and creates health and safety policies
  • 20% Supervise and direct the daily activities of the LSHP Environmental Health Specialists

  • Experience in construction and/or project management

  • Experience supervising teams or individuals

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in Spanish

Skills and Characteristics:

  • Ability to use appropriate respiratory and personal protection equipment.

  • Ability and willingness to travel routinely across the state. Willingness and ability to travel overnight and/or out of state occasionally.

  • Must be able track extensive documentation for multiple home rehabilitation projects among program partners, contractors, suppliers and homeowners.

  • Effective communicator of policies, procedures and regulations to program partners, contractors, suppliers, and homeowners.

  • Ability to collect, organize, and comprehend large amounts of regulatory and technical information effectively and accurately.

  • Be able to coordinate and prioritize work on multiple projects and investigations amid frequent interruptions and redirection.

  • Flexible and able to multitask on several different aspects of a project or on multiple projects

  • Excellent computer skills; well-versed in Microsoft Office Suite, with a strong and thorough knowledge of Excel.

  • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations.

  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

  • Be able to produce quality work under pressure while working strict deadlines

  • Able to work effectively under pressure and maintain a professional demeanor in sometimes confrontational or argumentative situations.

  • Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.

  • Strong knowledge of estimating, construction, design, finance/budgeting and project management. Strong ability to manage outcomes on projects for success.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift at least 25 pounds in and out of a vehicle trunk, from the floor to counter height, and to carry from one place to another.

  • Ability to climb steps and ladders unassisted, walk around construction, abatement and renovation sites with limited or difficult access because of work in progress, and work on knees when taking dust or other types of environmental samples.

  • Work in all weather conditions.

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position will be remote and requires work be performed at an offsite, non-campus work location. The selected finalist will need to be based out of WI as work is state-wide. Preferably, candidate will be located in Central, Southeastern, or Southwestern WI.

Minimum $77,450 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $77,450 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship.
