Basic Function

Responsible for the troubleshooting, testing and repair of complex circuits to board level line replaceable units (LRU). Troubleshooting to component level replacement utilizing OEM Test Benches and various electronic test equipment in the electronic lab. Assists the LRV Maintenance Supervisor and Project Management Team on failure analysis and fault isolation to resolve complex electrical, electronic, hydraulic and mechanical issues with the light rail vehicles systems. Acts as the on-duty LRV Maintenance Supervisor in his/her absence. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

  • Assists the LRV Maintenance Supervisors and project management team on failure analysis, fault isolation and interfaces with OEM engineering staff.

  • Performs complex, detailed line replaceable unit level diagnostics and repairs to vehicle systems and sub-systems.

  • Performs electronic and electrical circuitry repairs utilizing specialized tools and test equipment.

  • Develops procedures used for diagnosing, testing and repairing complex electronic equipment down to the component level.

  • Works on various special projects that requires comprehensive fault analysis to resolve complex electrical, electronic, hydraulic and mechanical issues with the vehicles and/or test equipment.

  • Works closely with the car builders and project management team during static, dynamic and qualification testing during the commissioning process through final acceptance of new light rail vehicles.

  • Provides guidance to Light Rail Vehicle Technicians in troubleshooting complex electrical, electronic hydraulic and mechanical issues with the light rail vehicle systems, sub-systems with the use of portable test equipment and laptop diagnostic and test software applications.

  • Monitors and mans the maintenance console for light rail vehicles to aid in predictive maintenance and for supporting in-service failure troubleshooting to minimize in-service delays.

  • Assists with Rail Operations Control Center during in-service failure to minimize service delays.

  • Works closely with management supervisory staff, vendors and contractors in determining fleet defects.

  • Tracks, records and documents maintenance and diagnostic data used for trending analysis.

  • Prepares and enters appropriate testing and diagnostic data for entry into the maintenance management system.

  • Documents warranty data according to METRO's policies and procedures.

  • Develops and establishes testing procedures for various electronic shop bench test units.

  • Operates METRORail non-revenue vehicles to include rail car mover, hi-rail equipment and re-railing equipment.

  • Acts as LRV Maintenance Supervisor in his/her absence.

  • Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers.

  • Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent is required. Associates degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology is preferred.

Years & Experience Required

Minimum four (4) years of increasingly responsible electrical/electronic repair experience is required. Military technical experience is preferred. LRV electronic repair experience is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills Required

Possession of or ability to obtain within 1 year a Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement. A valid CDL is required for the job and must meet METRO's motor vehicle records requirements. Employee must be able to pass a Yard Safety Orientation Course provided by METRO. Must successfully pass technical competency test prior to an interview. Excellent (verbal and written) communication skills are essential. Ability to communicate well with management, consultants and engineers to resolve vehicle maintenance issues. Performs technician level diagnosis and repairs of complex electrical and electronic equipment. Read and interpret electrical/electronic schematics and wiring diagrams. Utilizes bench and portable test equipment for diagnosing, testing and repairing board level components. Utilizes vendors software applications required for repairing electronic equipment.
