Responsibilities
Administers nursing care to patients under the direction of the registered nurse; includes assessing patients, implementing patient's plan of care, and evaluating the patient's response to care in coordination with the physician.
Provides patient/family or caregiver education as directed.
Utilizes hospital information system to process orders/data and retrieve patient information.
Is knowledgeable in delegation of tasks to certified nursing assistants, patient care technicians and nursing technicians with patients.
Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patients' records.
Works under direct supervision using the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards, and nursing judgment.
Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, drainage devices).
Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury).
Takes assigned call as defined in unit policy.
Qualifications
Possession of a current license as a practical nurse issued by the State of Iowa.
Successfully completes required medication examination prior to passing medication.
