Duties

Summary

Practices as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Alaska VA Healthcare System (AVAHS), in the Surgical Clinic (podiatry and gen surgery) and provides care to patients. The position provides direct patient care and provider support. Possible work at Joint Venture (JV) JBER.
Responsibilities

Accurately collect data on patients.
Administer prescribed medications.
Document care accurately.
Demonstrate the ability to vary the order and sequence of assignments based on the patient's conditions.
Demonstrate knowledge, skill and ability to recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations.
Demonstrates clinical competence in performing core and practice-specific competencies as listed on the skill/competency checklist.
Work Schedule: Monday

  • 4:00 pm (subject to change at the discretion of the agency)

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Education: Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE approved LPN school.
Licensure: State LPN/LVN License.
English Language proficiency.

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).

Preferred Experience: GI (colonoscopy pre-op teaching) experience, as well as clinic procedure experience (setting up sterile field.

Grade Determinations:
GS-6: At least 3 years of qualifying experience (Federal or non-Federal) one of which would be considered equivalent to the GS-5 level work as indicated above. This experience must have demonstrated that the candidate possesses the knowledge and ability to provide a full range of practical nursing care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavioral problems. One year of this experience must have been performing higher level duties in clinical areas as referred to in level 5. Prefer at least one year of experience in a Nursing Home or long term care center. Demonstrates the ability to appropriately carry out assigned patient care based on the patients' condition(s), uses judgment in selecting the appropriate order and sequence of procedures and treatments; and accurately recognizes, reports and records relevant patient information.

Physical Requirements:
The LPN position requires that the employee be able to lift and carry moderate weight (up to 44 lbs.), stand for long periods of time, walk, stoop, bend, pull/push, reach above shoulders and use both hands and fingers.
