Summary:

Assists the pharmacist in filling physician orders for medications for oral, rectal,topical and injectable products. Prepares intravenous admixture solutions as required using aseptic technique in the Laminar Flow Hood under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Assists the department in maintaince all drug storage areas, receiving and storing drug products, repackaging medications,record keeping and appropriate handling of controlled substances.

Responsibilities:

1.Cart filling Criteria A: Demonstrates knowledge of medication profile and drug names Cart filling Criteria B:

Demonstrates knowledge of unit dose system Cart filling Criteria C: Demonstrates knowledge of proper doses in unit of use packages Cart filling Criteria D: Demonstrates knowledge of cart exchange

2.Drug Packaging Criteria A: Demonstrates knowledge of prepacking computer Drug Packaging Criteria B:

Demonstrates knowledge of packaging policies and guidelines Drug Packaging Criteria C: Demonstrates knowledge of container size / overfill Drug Packaging Criteria D: Demonstrates knowledge of proper record keeping.

3.Sterile Products Area-1 Criteria A: Demonstrates knowledge of aseptic technique and syringe handling Sterile Products Area-1 Criteria C: Demonstrates knowledge of laminar flow hood Sterile Products Area-1 Criteria D: Demonstrates knowledge batch preparation, documentation and set up

5.Narcotic Dispensing Criteria A: Performs proper record keeping Narcotic Dispensing Criteria B:

Accurately fills controlled drug orders following departmental and statutory requirements. Narcotic Dispensing Criteria C: Demonstrates knowledge of inventory control Narcotic Dispensing Criteria D: Delivers and handles controlled substances appropriately

6.Receiving and Stocking Drug Storage Areas Criteria A: Maintains preassigned drug inventory levels both in and outside of the department Receiving and Stocking Drug Storage Areas Criteria B:

Receives, records and processes incoming drug orders Receiving and Stocking Drug Storage Areas Criteria C: Accurately fills and processes drug stock requisitions Receiving and Stocking Drug Storage Areas Criteria D: Performs required unit inspections

7.Automated dispensing machines Criteria A: Demonstrates knowledge of Omnicell Dispensing machines Automated dispensing machines Criteria B:

Demonstrates knowledge of Ariel narcotic Vault System Automated dispensing machines Criteria C: Accurately re-stocks and maintains dispensing machines

8.Pharmaceutical calculations Criteria A: Demonstrates an understanding of pharmaceutical calculations Pharmaceutical calculations Criteria B:

Demonstrates ability to calculate dosages, volumes and overfills

9.Performs other duties as assigned.

Other information:

Required: High School diploma or equivalent; pharmacy related experience preferred; maintain Pharmacy Tech Registration (CT); technician certification desirable.

Minimum Experience: zero to six months

Desired: Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, read and communicate effectively in English,, maintain dress code standards and maintain a neat and clean appearance

Assists with patient care activities and other tasks on the unit. Responsibilities: 1.
