Performs general nursing services of assigned providers and/or department. In accordance with HIPAA regulations, this position requires full access to Protected Health Information (PHI). Such disclosure is necessary to perform the requirements of the job. Confidentiality of PHI must be maintained.

On the telephone and in face-to-face contact with patients she/he represents the providers to these people, and by his/her personality, warmth and efficient helpful manner plays a vital role in the provider's practice. By exhibiting a cooperative, helpful manner toward other clinic employees the medical assistant can elicit cooperation and help from others when needed.
Education and experience:
Graduation from high school or GED.
Graduation from accredited licensed practical nurse program or medical assistant program
Basic Life Support is required
Registry or Certification in Medical Assisting or licensure as an LPN
Duties and Job Responsibilities:
Clinical Practice/Position Duties:
1.Attentive to patient and provider needs. Must be flexible and willing to learn. Actively participates in keeping provider on schedule.
2.Inspects patients' electronic medical records to insure completeness before the time of patient's appointment. Obtains any missing reports, necessary x-rays, etc.
3.Escort's patients to exam room and obtain vital signs, update electronic record with medication reconciliation, family and social history, and document current visit reasons.
4.Prepares patient, elicits complete and accurate patient history, and insures that all the appropriate instructions and equipment are arranged and ready. (see procedure preferences for specifics)
5.Assists provider in examination of patients.
6.Carries out or assists provider with diagnostic procedures, tests, and treatment.
7.Schedules appointments/referrals/admissions for patients outside the clinic (or directs the appropriate requisition to the Care Coordination team) and give appropriate instructions.
8.Screens patients' phone messages to provider in order to advise and/or determine if and when an appointment should be made. All calls will generate a message sticker.
9.Assists with medication samples. Calls patients on telephone to relay advice and instructions from provider.
10. Assists other medical assistants/LPN's with maintaining supplies/equipment as per department guidelines (sterilizing of instruments, disposal of waste, stocking of rooms, etc). Adds any needed supplies to order list when supplies are low.
11. Responsible for accurate administration of injections, triage of patient panel, refill protocol, as delegated by the private provider.
12. Performs other duties as directed to facilitate patient care. The above is not meant to be an all-inclusive list and additional duties can be expected.
