JOB SUMMARY: Works under the direction of a qualified professional nurse. Participates in the planning implementation and evaluation of nursing care within the objectives, standards, and policies of the department and within the parameters of his/her preparation. Cooperates with the members of the nursing and medical staff, and other clinical departments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides direct and individualized nursing care to an assigned group of patients based on the application of scientific principles, under the supervision of a registered professional nurse.
Assists in preoperative, postoperative, and relevant health teaching for patients and family.
Shares responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans.
Participates in team conferences, sharing knowledge, information, and ideas among team members.
Prepares, administers, and records medications in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a LPN.
Performs more complex nursing activities as competence increase.
Participates in emergency care.
Records information concisely, accurately, and completely.
Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels of communication.
Constructively participates in appropriate committees within the nursing department and/or the hospital.
