Cayuga Medical Associates, a multi-specialty group in Ithaca, NY is currently searching for an LPN to join their Internal Medicine office. The purpose of this job is to support the physicians and/or mid-level providers in the practice with clinical activities and direct patient care. The LPN may also assist in appointment scheduling and other related activities for optimal patient service.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Perform clinical duties in accordance with the scope of practice per LPN license and in accordance with NYS laws and regulations.

  • Carry out all assigned clinical procedures for the comfort and well-being of patients, per practice protocol.

  • Take and record patients vital signs.

  • Prepare exam rooms and sterilize equipment and supplies per protocols.

  • Assist physicians/providers with procedures, patient care and/or scheduling, per office protocol

  • Provide call management for physicians/providers with regard to clinical questions, prescription refills, test results and other patient calls per practice protocols.

  • Prepare patients record for visit, as directed by physician/provider.


  • Graduation from an accredited LPN program

  • Current NYS licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

  • Demonstrated clinical competency

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Knowledge of diseases and treatment

  • Ability to apply aseptic tech and sterilization

  • Knowledge of the practice management system, EMR and scheduling protocols

  • Basic keyboard skill

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • High level of accuracy in performing responsibilities

  • Exceptional service attitude and communication style

  • Professional appearance and demeanor

Including: * Perform patient history and physical examinations * Diagnose, treat, and manage acute and chronic health problems * Order, and interpret laboratory and radiology tests * Prescribe medication, including controlled substances as delegated in collaborative practice agreement * Document assessment, management, and education clearly, concisely, and legibly within medical record * Communicate pertinent findings to collaborating physician(s) in a timely manner * Demonstrate strong communication skills with patient and significant others to provide feedback regarding findings and treatment plan * Assess the patient and significant others psychosocial, emotional and environmental needs * Consult other health care team members in collaboration with physician to meet physician needs, while ensuring continuity of care * Provide phone triage to assess patients needs and conditions and respond appropriately * Coordinate patient care activities with other members of the office, hospital, or community * Provide education to patient, families and community groups * Participate in completion of disability forms, school forms, DMV forms, etc * Utilize research and evidence based practice to guide decision making * Demonstrate compliance with documentation and coding requirements * Maintain and update skills and knowledge * Works with all members of the team to achieve patient centered care as well as quality care by using the best practice standards and case management * Contributes to scheduled team meetings to discuss /clarify roles, responsibility, processes, and patient issues. * Provide care management by communicating with community agencies as appropriate * Participates in quality improvement activities and committees.
