About the Job
This LPN position provides assistance to physicians and registered nurses, administers medication and coordinates the delivery of physical and psychosocial care to assigned clients in a therapeutic environment. The work is moderately complexity requiring the application of evidence-based practice, with oversight by the registered nurse. The successful candidate should possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
Adherence to ANA standards of care for psychiatric nurses
Perform duties within the scope of practice as defined by the nurse practice act
Certified in professional rescuer CPR/AED, IV and TB
Excel in both written and verbal interpersonal and communication skills
Interacts with employees of all departments, as well as patients, patient families, state and accrediting agencies.
Basic computer skills in electronic medical records
Must be able to work 12.5 hour shifts three times per week and alternating weekends.
A Day in the Life
In providing nursing care to our patients, typical duties include:
Communicates vital signs, laboratory results and electrocardiogram results to the physician, nurse practitioner or psychiatrist.
Recognizes signs and symptoms of medical and psychiatric illnesses and communicates findings to physician, nurse practitioner or psychiatrist while adhering to recovery role model to prevent restraints and seclusion.
Follows the recovery role model to prevent restraint and seclusion
Knowledgeable on psychotropic medications and administers accurately.
Participates on treatment team collaborating with all disciplines.
Provides group activities and medication education.
Utilizes standard precautions and follows infection control practices
Assists attendants with patient care
What LSH is looking for
A nurse who is passionate about mental health recovery.
Currently licensed as Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Indiana Health Professions Bureau.
Experienced with developmentally disabled, geriatric or psychiatric nursing is preferred.
