Lower School Physical Education Teacher Grades PK 2-Grade 4

Employment Status: Full-Time, Exempt, Faculty

Reports To: Lower and Upper Elementary Principals

Start Date: August 2024

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m.-3:50 p.m., following the school calendar

Job Summary: Educate preschool and elementary aged children, helping them to develop an awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and serve to nurture this attitude in their students.

Job Responsibilities:

• Help students develop physically in areas such as flexibility, strength, endurance and coordination in fun, engaging and beneficial ways as well as assess and push students to achieve their best

• Help students learn about healthy interaction with their peers, encourage teamwork and group problem-solving

• Develop an atmosphere in which competition and winning are not necessarily as important as effort/participation and other essential skills students will gain from physical education

• Promote the development of physically literate individuals who have the motivation, confidence, and competence to enjoy a lifetime of healthful physical activity in multiple environments

• Create a learning environment that provides maximum participation for all students, PK through fourth grade, that is safe, welcoming, fun, and differentiates as needed to ensure all students experience success

• Communicate in a developmentally appropriate way to establish a classroom setting that fosters creativity and celebrates student's successes while supporting them in their challenges

• Coordinate/run, with parent support, after-school activities such as Track and Eagles' Skippers

• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• B.A. and/or M.A. in Physical Education

• Understands the needs of children ages 2 to 12 and able to connect with them in meaningful and engaging ways

• Strong Christian background

• Willingness to be flexible with scheduling unexpected changes occur

• Possesses a strong faith in Christ and be able to incorporate Christian principles into the lessons delivered each day

• Willingness to participate in fulfilling the mission of the school

• Comfortable working in a multi-denominational, Christian environment
