Low Boy / Side Dump Truck Driver

Job Summary:

Under direct supervision of the Transportation Manager the low boy side dump truck driver is primarily responsible for the safe and efficient operation of over-the-road dump trucks and trailers for various applications including the hauling and dumping of aggregates and spoils for commercial excavation, earth moving, site preparation, road building, and utility projects. Truck drivers are also responsible for loading, securing, and moving heavy equipment between job sites.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Safely and efficiently drive and operate well maintained 8 axle Dump truck and trailer / side dump.

• Loading/Unloading and securing loads of equipment properly.

• Knowledge of rules and regulations regarding gross weight/axle weight.

• Deliver sand and gravel products to job sites, pits and plants.

• Spread and stockpile per order.

• Inspect vehicles for mechanical items and safety issues.

• Document and log work/rest periods and miles spent driving.

• Comply with truck driving rules and regulations (size, weight, route designations, parking and break periods) as well as with company policies and procedures.

• Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions.

• Collect and verify delivery instructions.

• Report defects, accidents or violations.

Qualifications and Skills:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

• Valid CDL Class A license required.

• 5+ years proven truck driving experience & 3+ Low Boy.

• Clean driving record with no moving violations.

• Proficient using GPS and other routing systems.

• Willing to submit to background/drug checks and provide previous employment records.

Working Environment: Work is performed in the field. Fieldwork is generally in the right-of-way on streets and roads. The work involves driving the vactor truck, lifting sections of pipe, contact with wastewater and hazardous materials, close proximity to heavy equipment, and confined space entry.

Physical: Work is performed in the field in all weather conditions. The work requires balancing, climbing, kneeling, lifting to 100 pounds, pushing, pulling, reaching, stooping, and walking. (manhole covers, storm water grates). Ability to lift 50 lbs. overhead. The work may occasionally require entry and exit from confined spaces.
