Loss Control Consultant Commercial Insurance - Independent Contractor

Overview

EXL Risk Control is a leading provider of risk assessments and loss control surveys to commercial lines insurance carriers. We are seeking candidates who possess 10+ years of experience with a major insurance carrier and/or national broker in commercial Property & Casualty Risk Control, excellent communication skills, computer proficiency, and a commitment to meeting client quality and timeliness standards. Those with these skills as well as knowledge or experience in commercial insurance, inspections, or fire and safety assessments are encouraged to apply.

You will be responsible to schedule on-site surveys and provide risk evaluation and risk improvement reports to insurance industry clients. These reports contain information necessary to underwrite a commercial insurance policy, and may include recommendations to control and/or correct potential loss producing conditions associated with that policy. You will be expected to manage assignments you accept, successfully secure customer appointments within a local territory and complete work assignments on time.

You may work on special projects or conduct more challenging risk evaluation surveys or risk improvement service requests that utilize your education, professional certifications and overall risk control skills level. Insured businesses range from Middle Market to Large Multi-location commercial size.

Consultants will work from their home or office, and travel to local commercial business operations (i.e.) retail businesses, restaurants, hotels, apartment buildings and complexes, construction operations and jobsites, various types of manufacturers, churches, schools, etc. You will assess the risk for various commercial insurance lines of business that can include Property, General Liability, Workers Compensation, Auto/Fleet, Products Liability, Inland Marine and Builders Risk.

Tools or Items You Must Provide:

  • Windows-based PC with an image/document scanner

  • Digital camera

  • High speed internet access

  • Measuring device such as: laser, 100 ft. tape, or measuring wheel

  • Reliable vehicle

  • Auto and General Liability Insurance Preferred Experience

  • 10+ years of Risk Control Consulting

  • Experience working with major carrier or national brokerage preferred

  • BS Degree in Engineering, Safety and/or the physical sciences is preferred

  • CSP or ARM designations preferred but not required

  • Commercial Lines Property/Casualty Loss Control

  • Commercial Lines Property/Casualty Underwriting

  • Commercial Lines Property/Casualty Claims Adjuster

  • Commercial insurance inspections

  • Fire and Life Safety investigations/inspections

  • No Licensed Insurance Agents/Producers

US Insurance Operations (USIO) provides standard lines commercial property and casualty insurance products such as General and Product Liability, Property and Inland Marine, Commercial Auto, and Workers' Compensation to businesses of all sizes. This role will focus on the commercial construction industry class (commercial contracting and general contractors) for mid to large accounts typically ranging from $50,000 to $1,000,000 and over in premium on a multi-line basis (guaranteed cost and may include some loss sensitive business). JOB DESCRIPTION: Essential Duties & Responsibilities Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines: Works on highly complex underwriting risks employing diagnostic and systematic analysis to assess acceptability. Develops specialized endorsement language for highly complex risk. Determines appropriate pricing of complex risks for assigned book of business based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements and with little oversight needed from superiors. Makes recommendations on underwriting policy and pricing strategy. Analyzes quality, quantity, and profitability of highly complex risks underwritten; prepares and presents reports to management. Markets products and services through agencies or through the brokerage community and makes field visits. Develops and maintains agency and/or broker relationships with large producers within the assigned territory to reach positive and profitable outcomes on complex, high-risk business. Keeps current on state/territory issues and regulations, industry activity and trends. May participate in industry trade groups. Mentors and guides less experienced underwriters and assists in the development of underwriting training. Utilizes advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems to perform day-to-day activities. Responsible for special underwriting projects and presentations. Reporting Relationship Manager or above Skills, Knowledge and Abilities 1. Advanced technical expertise, underwriting skill and high level of knowledge of insurance and underwriting principles, practices and procedures. 2. Strong communication, negotiation and presentation skills. Ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners. 3. Advanced analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects. 4. Ability to deal with ambiguous situations and issues. 5. Creativity in resolving unique and challenging business problems. 6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software. 7. Demonstrated leadership skills.
