To provide "best practice" coaching on the knowledge and practices of the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy for implementation of high quality curriculum materials and research based instructional and interventional practices for all instruction; in order to ensure reading and writing success for K-5 in the Middletown Public Schools.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists classroom teachers in implementing high quality curriculum materials and instructional strategies to meet core curriculum needs.

  • Assists in the assessment of reading and writing and helps identify those needing special assistance;

  • Participates in blended coaching professional learning with K-5 ELA HQCM and the district K-5 implementation team.

  • Offers regular professional development experiences for teachers and demonstrates pertinent methods appropriate to various levels of reading instruction; Co-teaches and regularly observes reading instruction in classrooms to help teachers improve practice and students improve their performance.

  • Collaborates regularly with speech/language therapists, reading teachers, special educators, and multi language teachers to support the tier 2 and 3 supports for struggling readers; Support Tier 2 and 3 instruction to include modeling and demonstrating Structured literacy interventions.

  • Translates state and national literacy regulations and laws into initiatives at the district and school level. (including but not limited to Personal Literacy Plans, Right to Read, High Quality Curriculum)

  • Recommends adoption and use of Screening tools and programs that can be utilized district-wide,

  • Coordinates with school wide MTSS teams to ensure Structured literacy protocol for evaluation, instruction and progress monitoring are in place as a result of student data.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of instructional strategies and assessment principles and keeps abreast of research in the field of language arts

  • Assumes any other duties or responsibilities as may be delegated by the Assistant Superintendent and Principals relating to reading/writing instruction and school operation.
