Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Responsible for the supervision and coordination of the athletic program on the middle school campus to include coaching and staff organization in conjunction with the principal and athletic coordinators at their respective high school. The athletic coordinator assigns all campus coaches and maintains supervision over their coaching duties. They are responsible for adding to the total educational experience through athletics which will contribute to the general welfare and development of each student.

Education / Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.

  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned.

  • Teaching certification held in multiple areas is preferred.

  • Secondary Teachers: ESL Certification is preferred.

  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned.

Special Knowledge / Skills:

  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.

  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

  • Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

  • Knowledge of business math and the ability to keep account of budgets assigned to athletics.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Ability to use personal computers and all other standard equipment.

  • Ability to use necessary equipment and materials used in specific sports.

Experience / Other Requirements:

  • At least two years of teaching and football coaching experience is required.

  • Four years of previous coaching experience is preferred.

  • Knowledge of the overall operation of an athletic program.

  • Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business, including after hours, or when away from the office on district business.

  • Class B CDL with P and S endorsement (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).

  • Attend state mandated 20 hour TEA certification class.

  • Take a refresher course every three years to maintain certification.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Middle School Campus Athletic Coordinator

  • Responsible for the coaching and administering of the middle school athletic programs.

  • Evaluates campus coaches based on their effectiveness in their respective sports.

  • Responsible for the supervision and conflict resolution in assigned sports.

  • Works with the athletic coordinators/ athletic trainers / CISD Athletic Director in ordering all sports related equipment as needed.

  • Coordinates with the principal to ensure that activities comply with school district and the UIL rules for all sports.

  • Responsible for checking grades, the age and all U.I.L. eligibility requirements for all athletes.

  • Assists the high school athletic coordinators, middle school administration, and campus coaches in the development of the middle school athletic programs.

  • Collaborates with the high school athletic coordinators and school principal(s) in the management, accounting and inventory of all campus athletic equipment and facilities. Initiates and processes work orders for all assigned athletic facilities as needed.

  • Coordinates and assigns workout time periods for the weight room and is responsible for ordering all weight room equipment and insuring its safety.

  • Responsible for athletics staff development and arranges facilities and equipment for such activities.

  • Works with the high school athletic coordinators to assign campus personnel to work district activities and in the compiling of reports.

  • Coordinate campus level athletic events and is responsible for hiring and confirming game officials for all middle school sports.

  • Supervises the collection of campus game revenue and the assignment of work responsibilities.

  • Organizes and is responsible for all summer camp and recreation activities on the campus.

  • Responsible to communicate with the high school athletic trainer(s), any health issues, serious injuries and or any other training issues/needs that the campus and or athletes may have.

  • Scouting of opponents in all sports may be required of coordinator and coaching staff.

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.

  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.

  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.

  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.

  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).

  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.

  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.

  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).

  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.

Student Growth and Development

  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

  • Accompany and supervise student athletes during athletic competitions in assigned sports on out-of-town trips.

  • Drive student athletes to sporting events.

  • Instruct and advise students on NCAA regulations with regard to academic requirements for scholarships and recruiting practices.

  • Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

  • Encourage, by example and through instruction, sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.

  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.

  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.

  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

  • Maintain a current inventory of all fixed assets within program.

  • Oversee process of cleaning, repairing, and storing all campus athletic equipment.

  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

  • Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance ad learning the records retention schedule for department records.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Responsible for the supervision of the assigned campus coaching staff, assigned teacher aide(s), and student athletic assistant(s). Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
