Waubun/Ogema Job Summary: The Long-Term Special Education Paraprofessional Substitute provides temporary support to special education students under the direction of certified staff. This role involves working closely with students with disabilities to help them achieve their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.

The position requires adaptability and a strong commitment to student success during extended periods of staff absence. Assignment: Non-Certified, Long-Term Substitute Major Areas of Accountability: The responsibilities of a long-term substitute paraprofessional may vary based on student needs and the instructional environment.

Duties include, but are not limited to: Assist individual students or small groups in reinforcing learning and skills as directed by special education teachers. Monitor student progress, assist with curriculum-based testing, and support makeup work under the guidance of certified staff.

Act as a primary resource for continuity of instruction in the absence of regular staff, providing assistance to substitute teachers. Communicate concerns or relevant information about students to the appropriate staff. Supervise students during non-instructional periods, including lunch, recess, and field trips.

Assist with personal care tasks, such as toileting and dressing, as required. Maintain ethical standards and confidentiality regarding student information. Encourage the development of academic and social skills while supporting appropriate behavior and communication.

Participate in meetings, in-service training, and professional development as required. Implement accommodations and modifications specified in student IEPs, such as providing modified materials or assisting with assessments. Collaborate with other staff to model and teach effective strategies for interacting with students with disabilities.

Collect and report data on student progress towards IEP goals. Prepare instructional materials, assist with classroom organization, and support a positive learning environment. Provide feedback to special education teachers on student participation, behavior, and progress.

Attend IEP meetings as requested by administrators, teachers, or parents. Perform other duties as assigned by the school system, principal, or designee. Job Requirements:

This position requires versatility and a range of skills, with the potential for further development as job demands evolve. Essential qualifications include: Ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and the community.

Reliable and consistent attendance. Strong oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills demonstrating tact, patience, and courtesy.

Familiarity with Google, Microsoft, and Skyward software is advantageous. Ability to be assertive when addressing behavioral issues and promoting positive change. Sensitivity to the emotional, social, and educational needs of students.

Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and exercising discretion. Supervision of Other Employees: This position does not include supervisory responsibilities over other district employees.

Working Environment: The role may involve physical activities such as lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant fine motor skills. Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required. Successful completion of the paraprofessional proficiency exam. Experience: Experience is not required, but 1-2 years of experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is preferred.
