The Logistics Supervisor for Fleet Operations reports to the Sr. Logistics Manager or Logistics Manager Fleet and is responsible for scheduling and transmitting drivers and equipment for transportation of materials, freight, service, or emergency repairs while ensuring that all his/her efforts are compliant with the company Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. Duties may include using radio, telephone, or computer to transmit assignments and compile statistics and reports on work progress.

This position operates under flexible parameters. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the position. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively, and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increase profits.

Salary Range: $87,500 to $92,500 Annually

Essential Functions:

  • Environmental and Health & Safety (H&S)

  • Strictly adheres to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.

  • Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors by ensuring that all drivers are up-to-date and current on all safety trainings/policy - procedure changes.

  • Conduct weekly safety meeting with Radius Over-The-Road (OTR) drivers.

  • All incidents with Radius Over-The-Road (OTR) drivers or with 3rd party haulers are to be reported in a timely matter and inputted in Intelex (within 24 hrs.)

  • Review Dashcam events with drivers and provide coaching sessions.

  • Comply with all safety metrics including but not limited to:

  • LSO (Layer Safety Observation)

  • Hazard Recognitions

  • Environmental good catches

  • Operational Performance & Best Management Practices

  • Schedule and dispatch drivers to appropriate locations according to customer requests for pickup, car crushing specifications, or additional needs.

  • Confer with drivers to address questions, problems, and requests for service or equipment.

  • Relay information to or from the Regional Logistics Manager and other on team.

  • Organize the road-testing requirements for newly hired drivers.

  • Interview new candidates for driving positions.

  • Monitor and update SAI system to illustrate scale crossing times, load weights, freight weights, and driving hours to remain DOT compliant.

  • Utilize CRO Software system as the preferred method of dispatching all loads for accountability purposes.

  • Tracking of Certificate of Insurance for all 3rd party haulers to be kept up date and in compliance.

  • Monitor JJ Keller platform in regard to drivers ELD Logs

  • Equipment & Maintenance

  • Monitor equipment locations and utilization to coordinate required maintenance and appropriate transfers.

  • Administrative Management

  • Monitors and maintains exempt and hourly staff at cost effective and competitive levels.

  • Monitors supervisory practices for self and his/her direct reports to ensure compliance with HR policies and union contracts.

  • Reviews performance of direct reports.

  • Interviews prospective management and/or production employees.

  • Works with Human Resources personnel to prepare job descriptions

  • Special Projects

  • Performs special projects or other duties as needed or assigned.

Specific Other Responsibilities (regional, location, compliance, etc.):

Responsibilities of onboarding new Owner Operators, making sure all insurance, lease agreements and safety procedures are followed.

Internal Control Responsibilities:

Supports the Company's Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating, and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures, and controls to better relate to the business. Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position supervises all Over-The-Road (OTR) drivers within their region.

Job Conditions:

This position is occasionally exposed to all weather conditions. Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, and dirt are present due to the equipment, machinery, and scrap as would be found throughout the scrap yard. Safety shoes, hardhats, and eye protection must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards. Frequent travel to the other yards may be required.

Handling multiple issues regarding safety and maintenance increases pressure. Workload may be unpredictable, and pressure can be substantial during peak times. Critical deadlines require considerable adaptability. Disturbances of workflow and/or irregularities in work schedule are expected and occur on an intermittent basis. Extra hours may be required, sometimes on weekends, weekdays, and holidays.

Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:

Ability to: sit, stand, and or walk for up to 6-8 hours per day; occasionally negotiate around and over piles of scrap metal or equipment; crouch or bend at the knees occasionally to increase visibility; stoop or bend at the waist occasionally to increase visibility; reach at arm's length frequently or overhead occasionally; twist and turn at the neck and trunk; walk frequently on uneven ground; lift, carry, push and pull over 50 pounds occasionally. Visual acuity required for close inspection of detailed material such as reports, manuals, documents, and computer work. Hearing acuity required for daily communication with customers, drivers, and other employees. Mental dexterity needed as the employee will be required to interaction with others, work independently, and exercise attention to detail continually.

Qualifications:

Graduate of a four-year degree program in Business, Transportation, or Supply Chain Management preferred. 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar role required. Familiarity with DOT regulations and scrap industry preferred. This position requires possession of a valid driver's license, as well as the ability to drive an automobile.

Ability to communicate, both orally and in writing, in a professional manner. Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook. Successful candidate will have previously been involved with continuous improvement initiatives with documented success. Must exhibit analytical skills to manage production metrics and implement new technologies. Must have experience managing a departmental budget, justifying capital expenditures and measuring return on investment. Ability and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; deal with problems involving several specific variables in or from standard situations.
