Managethe order book and service hauler base for an assigned territory orregion. Receive orders, assemblelogistics plan, schedule delivery of construction and non-constructionmaterials, and solicit new business. Ensure that correct products andquantities are delivered in a timely manner. Maintain records of daily production of orders and process accountspayable and receivable. Attract new, andmaintain current hauler/carrier relationships as well as all hauler files.


  • Assemble and actively manage the ever-changing daily logisticsplan for assigned territory or region.

  • Manage all logistics and material orders to ensure accuracy andcompleteness.

  • Procure sufficient carriers to fulfill all delivery obligations.

  • Sustain appropriate levels of customer contact to ensureexceptional service levels.

  • Preserve proper levels of communication with constructionaggregate order management group, sales and operations manager.

  • Prepareand maintain delivery data, reports, and records of daily production orders.

  • Solicit new orders/business that compliments the daily logisticsplan.

  • Maintain and improve process efficiencies.

  • Job site visits to interact with customer contacts and carriers.

  • Conduct quarterly quarryreviews with Vulcan stakeholders.

  • Negotiate rates with carriersand potential dump sites.

  • Develop annual territorybudget.

  • Conduct annual carriermeetings.

Other Requirements

Must be able to sit forlong periods; be able to use common office tools and technology, such as cellphone, office telephone, calculator, computer, and other electronicdevices. Must have a valid driver'slicense and the ability to drive an automobile on a daily basis; there may be aperiodic need to travel by airline.

Mental Requirements:
The candidate must be self-motivated with theability to work with minimal direct supervision. Need to be able to work in astressful, deadline oriented environment that requires thinking and actingquickly and creatively to resolve problems. Memorize and recall detailedinformation. Communicate effectively with customers as well as truckers.

Equipment Used: Computers, calculator,telephones, fax machines, cell phones and automobiles.



  • College degree preferred, high school degree or itsequivalent is required.


  • Three to five years experience that has includeddispatching, customer relations, construction/transportation;administrative or sales experience is required.


  • Excellentwritten and verbal communication skills required. Ability to manage multipleactivities/projects concurrently. Knowledgeof: construction materials and processes, weight and measure laws andregulations, truck and transportation requirements and regulations. Scheduling and organizing large numbers ofpeople and equipment efficiently and quickly. Must have skill in usingcomputers to record information and create reports; providing excellentcustomer service by phone; making basic mathematical computations; readingmaps. Demonstrate a dynamic personalityand positive attitude with the ability to remain calm and focused in a highstress environment. Ability to interfacewith all levels of the vendor organizations as well as our customersorganizations. Working knowledge ofMicrosoft Office applications is a plus.
