Logistics Sales Representative

Cowan Systems, LLC has a strong foundation in the transportation industry, and provides all services a shipper could require. We have a network of intermodal locations, a large fleet consisting of 1,500 power units and 5,000 trailers, a full service logistics division, and warehouses that fulfill distribution needs.

Cowan Logistics, a division of Cowan Systems, LLC, serves as a freight brokerage, and is seeking motivated individuals looking to start their career with a growing organization in a steady industry. The Logistics Sales Manager role is an exciting inside sales opportunity that provides the ability to develop a book of business for our logistics division. We provide a full training program, room for growth and advancement within the organization, and a competitive compensation structure.

Summary of Position:

Logistics Sales Representatives develop and maintain client relationships by developing effective ways to transport customers freight utilizing Cowan Logistics services. This role serves in a sales capacity and communicates with both customer and carrier contacts. Responsible for building and maintaining customer relationships, assessing client specific needs, promoting and selling Cowan services, and maintaining sales goals and objectives. Positions offers base salary plus uncapped commission.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective clients

  • Cultivate new sales leads to establish business

  • Sell and negotiate Cowan Logistics services

  • Responsible for securing and maintaining new business

  • Provide quotes for current and prospective clients

  • Ability to make phone calls and spend in excess of four hours on the telephone every day

  • Update and maintain Logistics Management System

  • Perform analytical and logistics planning

  • Proactively identify problems and implement effective solutions

  • Provide follow-up customer satisfaction with clients as needed

  • Achieve individual, team, and company goals

  • Work closely with Logistics Managers to ensure customer freight is being moved efficiently

Ability to work both independently and within a team

Extremely organized and detail oriented

Must possess a strong work ethic

Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to negotiate rates, sell services, and build professional relationships via telephone and email

Strong communication (both verbal and written), problem solving, and decision making skills

Position Overview The Specialist I, Logistics position is responsible for logistical coordination of a relatively complex nature. The scope of responsibility is rail fleet management, tracking fleet movement and inbound/outbound commodity; external management of shipping schedules, serving customers by arranging for carriers, rail cars, and/or barges in the shipment of commodity product; or a combination thereof. This position is highly collaborative and shares information internally to optimize efficiency and effectiveness, while delivering extraordinary service. Key Responsibilities * Implement and monitor movement and shipping activities which optimize fleet utilization and fulfill orders. * Research and maintain market knowledge and track tariff and regulation changes to make logistics decisions and negotiate terms that are competitive and meet financial, operational and service goals. * Provide customer assistance in processing of orders/deals, convey pertinent information throughout the process, monitor shipments/fleet movement, and address customer inquiries as to status or issue resolution. * Manage administrative processes surrounding logistics which could include managing system information and providing reports and data, resolving claims and issues, conveyance of price, bid or deal information, entry of contracts into system, information input and auditing for billing/invoicing, and ensuring proper logistics documentation is obtained/completed.
