Purpose
Manages and leads all aspects of transportation within a distribution center (DC), including both store deliveries and backhaul management. Understands processes and procedures to allow insight to issues that need to be addressed as well as identifying process improvements. Serves as the liaison between the carrier, DC, and corporate office. Manages the carrier by setting clear expectations and holds them accountable to KPIs and other commitments. Understands fleet utilization and works to obtain the most cost-effective and efficiently run fleet. Communicates continuously with the stores to ensure the highest quality service is delivered.
Responsibilities
Responsible for the oversight of our carriers / 3PL partners. Aligns with them daily on execution planning to ensure KPIs are hit, and operational functions are handled to expectations
Ensure fleet optimization by the creation of balanced transportation schedules and confirmation that assets are fully utilized and in good working condition
Manages the backhaul process to ensure all opportunities are identified and scheduled to complete daily routing plan
Maintains Customer Master and the Order Book to reflect current business needs
Completes accessorial chargebacks and confirms associated compliance
Reviews freight billing and rates for errors and monitors all financial aspects of the transportation spend
Tracks, files, and monitors compliance of FSMA-related documents
Attends support and safety meetings for DC team members
Reviews and updates period-end and quarter-end files
Reviews accessorial charges for trends and root cause analysis
Works any ad-hoc requests with the corporate office team
Assess cost-effectiveness of broker-managed lanes by confirming accurate receipts and remove lanes incurring a loss
Works with numerous departments across the organization to complete tasks and solve problems
Be the go-to contact for the retail partners for communication
Manage escalations as well as building and maintaining a relationship with the stores
Utilizes tools to monitor and adjust performance
Oversees all cross-dock functions (where applicable), load planning & building, loading, and carrier communication
Works with supply chain or buyer if issues arise
About You
Bachelor's Degree preferred in Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations Management, or related field
3 - 5 years of experience preferred
Possess strong analytical, oral, and communication skills with a proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and with cross-functional partners
Proficient in the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Strong computer skills, ability to navigate Warehouse Management System and Transportation Management System platforms, and proficient in the use of all Microsoft Office applications
Physical Requirements
Flexible to travel as needed for rare situations
Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled environment
Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal
Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of a normal workday
Stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching may be required in completion of job duties
