Position Description

The Logistics Manager position is responsible for the implementation and execution of process management and manages total customer satisfaction in a logistics operation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Logistics or Transportation or 8 (eight) years of combined college and/or relevant equivalent work experience is required

  • Minimum of 2 (two) years of supervisory experience required

  • Experience with warehouse and or software applications, routing and dispatch software systems required

  • Experience with ground transportation operations including DOT, OSHA and all related safety regulations

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills preferred

  • 3-5 years of experience in a transportation, warehouse or distribution environment preferred

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring flawless execution and adherence to pre-established customer critical success factors

  • Management of all areas of transportation to include safety, transportation, DOT regulation, compliance, P and L responsibility, distribution and customer service

  • Management of assigned direct reports to include employee relation issues, performance management, new employee training and development

We are currently hiring for a Brewery Logistics Leader at our Pennsylvania Brewery. The Brewery Scheduling and Logistics Leader is responsible for establishing all management practices for Receiving, Storage and Shipping of all material leaving and entering the Pennsylvania Brewery. This person will lead efforts to reduce inventory and lead times by leveraging continuous improvement and end-to-end supply chain flow methods to highlight barriers in BBC capabilities (people, process, and technology) and partnering with other leaders to solve them. This person h direct responsibility for developing production schedules that effectively utilize brewery capacity to optimize service and cost, and direct responsibility for onsite and offsite 3PL warehouse operations. This person will lead efforts to establish and refresh inventory management practices and policies for finished goods, packaging materials and ingredients. This individual supervises a team of salaried managers over scheduling and warehouse operations. This leader will work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other leaders to establish a vision and change plan for SAPB to achieve world-class levels of scheduling and warehouse operations. This leader is accountable to identify and execute process improvements related to safety, customer fill rates, demurrage and detention charges, staffing, inventory levels, capacity planning and utilization, and inventory accuracy. What You'll Do: * Must be able to work in and promote a team oriented and "Safety First" environment. Safely, efficiently, and effectively work to attain department and brewery goals and objectives. Help ensure "No bad beer leaves the brewery". * Understands, follows, and enforces all established safety, health, quality GMP and Company policies, procedures, and recognized practices. * Participates in brewery staff, shift and safety meetings, and conducts regular departmental meetings and training based on business needs. * Create an environment of team engagement and provide supervision and mentorship to the warehouse team members. * Ensure full alignment with supply and customer requirements published by BBC Supply Planning and Distribution teams based in Boston. * Drive culture of fiscal responsibility by ensuring alignment between financial projections and the Brewery Scheduling and Warehouse processes * Deploy and monitor the performance against core supply processes within the brewery such as master resource planning, capacity planning, creation of scheduling patterns to smooth production flow of materials and inventories throughout the brewery * Support the development of a disciplined approach to the introduction of new products to the brewery * Provide formal inputs into BBC Supply Review on Brewery performance against agreed KPIs to drive decision making and resource allocation against problem areas to ensure sufficient product availability to meet customer demand and overall supply chain effectiveness * Drives continuous improvement in all areas of warehouse operations, material handling, and brewery scheduling to achieve BBC product availability and responsiveness goals * Assist in development and deployment of capabilities o FGS Safety Stock Management o RM safety stock tool o Capacity Planning capability- standardizes, smoother, and iterate more easily/faster o Inventory/E&O projection Capability * Drive a leaner and more talented organization o Raising the bar on team- challenging status quo and pushing team to grow o Active performance management of underperformers and development of future leaders o Talents identified and made available to actively participate in the definition, designing and deployment of capabilities or other programs * Developing and implementing operations changes to reduce costs and/or improve efficiency * Participates in Quality investigations * Provide leadership by mentoring coworkers in the use of Lean tools, ensuring transfer of knowledge and creating a culture of continuous improvement. * Serves as an example and provides positive support of Boston Beer Culture and Values. * Ensure policies and procedures are administered in a fair and consistent manner. * Conducts annual performance reviews. Creates and supports development plans for direct reports. Coach and develop Leads and Supervisors to be leaders in the organization * Instill a culture of continuous improvement by using and coaching problem-solving skills, 5S, standard work, visual controls, leader standard work, kaizens, kanbans, and other lean tools. * Work with supporting functions to develop kanbans and consumption-based replenishment techniques with suppliers for packaging materials and ingredients. * Developing KPIs (both managerial and operational) and Visual Controls that drive improvement in operations and allow coworkers to track performance to targets real time and be able to respond to abnormal conditions, identify gaps and roadblocks to successful execution of KPI's and develop plans to close gaps. * Implementing and driving in real time SAP inventories through improved shipping, receiving and cycle counting processes for finished goods, packaging materials and ingredients. * While minimizing cost, manage seasonal overflow of inventory and utilize 3rd PL warehouse when the brewery is at maximum inventory capacity levels. * Improve production paperwork processes in order to streamline production information and reduce inventory errors. * Identify cost improvement opportunities and implement them through raw material suppliers, manufacturing, and warehousing and distribution partners. * Accountable for WHS inventory and TTB Compliance. Physical Demands and Working Conditions: Office, production brewery, and warehouse environment. Varying temperatures and working conditions. What We're Looking For: Education Required: Bachelor of Science or equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred: MBA Preferred Prior Work Experience Required: * Ten or more years' experience in scheduling and warehouse/distribution center operations in a manufacturing environment with a history of continued development both academically and professionally. * Extensive practical experience with high-speed bottling/packaging operations in food/beverage industries preferred. * An in-depth understanding and track record of having delivered operational processes that drive safety, quality, cost and delivery improvements. * Proven success in managing a team, safety records and operational issues. * Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers. * Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service. * Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion, with proven experience in delivery against key KPI's. * Collaborates well with others. Proactively contributes to group objectives and volunteers to help others. * Lean manufacturing experience as it relates to Warehouse operations and Production Scheduling. * Demonstrated project/idea development skills. * Solid financial aptitude and experience managing a budget. * Demonstrated experience improving employee engagement and developing high performance team to solve problems and deliver results. * Highly effective multi-tasker; resourceful with a "get-it-done, can-do" attitude. * Able to impact and effect positive change with a flexible, open-minded, positive approach.
