Job Purpose

To coordinate the day-to-day logistics activities for inbound and outbound transportation; to coordinate payment, collections, and cost containment activities within the Logistics function; to coordinate and maintain off-site inventory activities to assure adherence to all policies and procedures; assist with Planning and maintenance of Risk Management policies

Key Responsibilities


Skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Knowledge rail, and truck transport shipping environment

  • Basic knowledge of logistics and transportation principles

  • Strong written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of basic accounting principals

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Inventory Management methods

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

  • Basic project management and prioritization skills

  • Demonstrated organizational, negotiation, and customer service skills

  • Ability to operate a computer and supporting software, including AS400


  • Associates degree in Business or related field desirable


  • 2+ years' previous logistics transportation experience

  • Load planning or dispatching, customer service, and driver support experience

Or any equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.

Effectively communicate with various customers such as procurement, manufacturing, suppliers, shipping & receiving, carriers and the Kroger Distribution Centers. Essential Job Functions: * Tender freight orders to preferred company carriers * Monitor inbound TMS systems to ensure carrier acceptance and rating of shipments * Assist Transportation Supervisor in procuring freight, identifying transportation requirements and making carrier selection. * Audit freight payment process for accuracy and timeliness through current freight payment systems. * Prepare financial performance reports weekly, at period end and quarter close related to Kroger managed freight. * Communicate regularly with various customers such as procurement, manufacturing, suppliers, shipping & receiving, carriers and the Kroger Distribution Centers. * Plan and schedule fleet pickups at vendor locations. * Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Position Qualifications: * Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). * Good listening, organizational, and time management skills. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Experience in handling and prioritizing multiple tasks. * Ability to work off scheduled hours inclusive of weekends, nights, and holidays. Desired Previous Job Experience * Experience in distribution shipping/receiving, general freight hauling, direct store delivery or backhaul transportation operations. * Proficient in transportation management systems (TMS), specific to Manhattan, One Network and i-Trade, procurement applications, and Kroger Web applications. * Experience in a Customer Service problem resolution role.
