GCU is currently seeking a full time Locksmith with locksmith skills, performance and the ability and the willingness to take on new challenges. Employees in this job perform a wide range of locksmith and electronic access system duties, including the installation, maintenance and repair of locks, doors, and hardware; opening of locks on doors and safes; and the changing of lock combinations.


  • Install, repair and maintain commercial lockable hardware such as doors, automatic electric door, windows, lockers and magnetic keying systems to ensure safety of facilities.

  • Produce and/or modify hardware for locks.

  • Make new keys; replace broken or lost keys.

  • Design and maintain master key system.

  • Design, modify, and implement security policies and procedures.

  • Design, implement and maintain preventative maintenance program.

  • Cleans, maintains, adjusts, calibrates and services equipment used in the performance of duties.

  • Monitors work done by outside contractors for adherence to state and federal Code requirements and reports back to supervisor.

  • Maintains appropriate service and repair records.

  • Researches, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals and supplies.

  • Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.

  • May train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area.

  • Assists and serves as back up to other Facilities employees.


  • Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a locksmith.

  • Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record.

  • Must have high school degree.

  • Must have sufficient knowledge of the methods, materials and tools used in the locksmith trade, including complex access and control systems; thorough knowledge of all types of locks, fastening devices and related hardware.

  • Must have sufficient knowledge of relevant building codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures installation and maintenance, particularly pertaining to fire exits and door hard wire.

  • Must have working knowledge of electrical locking and security systems and devices.

  • Must be able to perform journey-level commercial locksmith work.

  • Must be willing to participate in rotating on call schedules.

  • Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University's Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

Adams Phoenix, AZ 85007 JOB SUMMARY & DUTIES The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is committed to providing the youth under our care and supervision with effective, efficient, and high quality rehabilitation and transformative services in support of your vision, mission, and values. We are seeking a Locksmith Security Specialist II to work under the direction of the Physical Plant Supervisor. This position performs skilled locksmith duties in the installation, remodeling, maintenance, restoration, inspection, and/or repair of all locking systems; coordinates, implementing and monitors measures that will ensure against both accidental and intentional loss, unauthorized modification, improper destruction, misuse and/or unauthorized disclosure of ADJC assets. Duties include: * Install, maintain and repair all minor and major renovations and inspections * Planning a master key system * Operating lock shop precision machines for keys, cutting and lock repair and inventory * Completes maintenance work orders, repairs, carpentry, plumbing, welding, masonry, maintenance, painting, heating/cooling, fire alarm systems, electrical and tool repairs * Minor landscaping, standard inspection and preventative maintenance on facility structures * Maintain tools and equipment * Assist in writing, executing, monitoring and report preparation including but not limited to risk analysis of trends in violation or impacts to the agency * Develop cost estimates for operation and major and minor renovation * Attends internal and external meeting * Meet with internal and external customers, vendors, and contractors * Performs other duties as assigned KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: * Methods and practices in maintaining, installing, replacement and repairing all locksmith requirements * Safety practices pertaining to the maintenance work environment * Blue prints, sketches, schematics and structural components of building and related security systems * National and local building codes and common safety practices * Common and specialized tools, equipment and materials related to the trade * Common safety practices, estimating, costing and ordering supplies and materials * Providing risk analysis of trends in violations or impacts to the agency * Policies and procedures established for the work system * Current applicable safety practices, national and local building and construction codes * Statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures applicable to areas of assigned responsibility * Electronic security systems Skill in: * Strong problem-solving skills * Security principles and practices * Written and verbal communication * Developing, interpretation of blueprints and schematics for all major and minor maintenance and construction projects * Establish and maintain a positive working relationship * Applying and understanding national and local building codes and common safety practices in the trade * Estimating, costing and ordering supplies and materials * Development and implementation of preventive maintenance programs * General computer operations * Report writing and user manual preparation * Investigative skills to research the source of the problem and violations to prevent recurrence Ability to: * Retain the Western Detention Certification * Strong problem solving * Be most productive and cost efficient operative to provide safe and secure institution for the end users * Recommend materials, methods and professional services as required * Determine recommendations on various types and manufactures of manual keying systems; stand alone electronic devices and computerized key storage systems * Maintain computerized records systems * Adapt to a variety of assigned tasks * Learn basic internal computer programs - Microsoft Word, Excel, Spreadsheets and Google Suites * Practice safety and security procedures * Perform basic custodial duties * Minor landscaping techniques such as mowing and weeding * Learn agency policy and procedures * Work in a correctional facility * Drive on state business SPECIAL SELECTION FACTORS Ability and willingness to earn the Certification from Western Detention for installation, management and repair of Southern Steel, Folgers Adams detention locks and services. Requires possession of, and ability to retain, a current valid Arizona-issued driver license.
